Marina and the Diamonds - Electra Heart
Anyone excited about this? I loved her first album and think it holds up very well 2 years later. But... there are at least 4 tracks available online now from the new album and so far I haven't been blown away by any of them.
I can't help but feel that she might have traded in cute and quirky for a more mainstream sound that dilutes why I liked her in the first place.
Am I wrong? Does it matter? Does anyone care?

I will
give it a listen if its on spotify at some point but I'm not going to be rushing out to buy it. I liked Obsessions but the rest of the first album didn't do it for me. The little I've heard of the second album doesn't make me think I'm going to like this one either.
I really liked (still like) the first album too
I don't like what I have heard of the new one. Homewrecker is particularly awful. It just sounds like any other throwaway dance/pop you hear these days. Radioactive isn't too bad, though not keen on the dance track over it.
I'm with you
Each time something new has come out, I've been thinking that it will be the track to do it for me. I'm kind of there with Primadonna, but even so, thematically, it all just seems so labored... Hope I'm wrong...
turns out she just released the best single of the year

Primadonna sounds like the sort of thing i should hate.
The lyrics are fucking awfu in any case. But actually its probably the best pop song i've heard in aaaaages. Plus, without resorting to lame, boring laddishness - she is so hot in the video.
So this is actually a pretty fucking fantastic album, right?
All those tracks that didn't make sense in isolation totally come together on the album. Plus the deluxe version has Radioactive and at least one more killer tune that should've been on the standard version. The DiS review was totally off the mark but fortunately this seems to be getting well-reviewed elsewhere. Marina, I apologize for doubting you.
might get it from ASDA/tesco tomorrow or just listen on Spotify. reckon it will be quite good
first 5 tracks are GREAT
I don't agree personally
The only track I really liked was Teenage Idle. Out of the 5 first tracks, "Bubblegum bitch" is fun. I also like the verses of Homewrecker. The rest just sounds okay-ish to me..and a little over-thought.
* Teen Idle
not 'teenage'
She was on Graham Norton tonight
I lasted about twenty seconds. It's just Lady Gaga for hipsters.
I thought Lady Gaga was for hipsters?
maybe Lady Gaga is Kesha for hipsters
and Marina and the Diamonds is Lada Gaga for hipsters (dethroning Lana del Rey)?
All four are pretty great
and pretty hipster
what do you mean when you say this?
^ this
Utter, utter garbage.
God, I'm fickle...
... after having decided that I liked her new 'pop' sound, I went back and listened to the first album and just can't shake the feeling that she's lost so much of her magic on the new album. It's all wonderfully produced and sparkly, but is pretty standard pop. 7/10?
jumped in at no 1 on the midweeks...
That really suprises me
I kind of thought the British public was largely indifferent to her and it's been getting some pretty mediocre reviews. Good for her I guess...
Her debut got to No. 2 I think
Really enjoying this at the moment
The State of Dreaming is the standout for me, very front loaded though, even if Teen Idle comes up at the end.
All the bonus tracks are great, could probably do without Power and Control, and Living Dead though.
This isn't good music.
Clash have given this 1/10.
Didn't really like her debut.
