Beacons Festival 2012
It still strikes me as odd, as a local, that Skipton has a festival this modern...perhaps they have mistaken 'old' for 'retro'. Anyway, I didn't make it last year but there was certainly excitement beforehand, and they've managed to secure another year. With Glastonbury having a rest, several people have told me they might check this out as a form of compensation (you would've thought they'd aim bigger). Apparently the location has changed though...
First Line-up is here: http://greetingsfrombeacons.com/ For me highlights are Junior Boys, Cass McCombs, Peaking Lights, Ghsotpoet and Errors so far... More to be announced. Anyone going? Excited?

You didn't miss much last year...
It was cancelled because of flooding. That's why they've moved the site.
yeah, this years line-up is pretty poor so far
last years looked great, but as above it was cancelled
Cheers for the info
Was wondering why the FAQs were coverong flooding a lot. Though disagree about the line up, checked last years out and it wasnt miles better, especially since this years is only partially announced.
Lineup's not that great just yet, but I'm sure it will.
Got myself a ticket, anyway - if it's anything like last year's lineup then I'll have no complaints.
Line up is absolutely fine by me so far
- especially for that ticket price! Don't live oop North anymore, but would love to get up there if I can. Especially for Cass.
Live in the same postcode...
waiting to see what the deal is on resident tickets that they've got trailed on their website.
Is that BD23?
Or do you have to have the skipton postcode?
Not sure yet but I assume it will be Skipton/Carleton ??
I'm going to this
I don't even think they have announced half the acts for this year, but it's already a massive improvement on last years line-up.
Read somewhere there is announcement on the 20th March
with both of the other headliners. Can't go wrong with that ticket price though, surely
thinking of making the trek up from London to this...
I think the lineup looks fairly decent so far. Plus its only £60 at the moment! Bloody fantastic price.
will keep an eye on this, as just down the road
only Errors & hookworms stand out to me at the moment, but we shall see what the announcement on 20th brings.
The last announcement was that Wild Beasts would headline saturday
Its an interesting one...a good profile band and I think it'll do wonders for the festival certainly. Still Corners crept up onto the line up too.
They're announcing more bands for this
They're doing it very slowly, but there's some really good stuff!!
Real Estate
Cloud Nothings
Julio Bashmore
The Felice Brothers
Oneman
Koreless
More to come as well!!
anyone going?
more new bands today, so far
Admiral Fallow
Hey Sholay
Goodnight Lenin
Fun Adults
Pale Seas
25 more to come today
me, me, me!
Soul Jazz Soundsystem DJs could be amazing.
JAPANDROIDS!!!
JAPANDROIDS / NOPE / HAWKEYES / THAT FUCKING TANK / DOUBLE MUSCLE / STALKING HORSE / WOT GORILLA
brilliant
This is definitely the best value I've ever got for 50 quid
THIS AIN'T VEGAS ARE PLAYING
So
Wild Beasts
Willy Mason
Errors
D/R/U/G/S
Japandroids
Peaking Lights
Think i might give Beacons a go this year for something new.
This looks so fucking good.
Can't believe I'm going to probably wait for it to sell out before trying to get a ticket.
Im going
got cheap weekend tickets for £60
stewarding at this.
They announced japandroids after I wrote my application including which bands I'd really like my shifts not to clash with.
For those who are poor and without a ticket, I think they might still be looking for stewards.
it gon' rain
I just bought a raincoat
you are wise
Wooooooo
setting off soon! I'll be in a variety of ever more ridiculous playsuits so come say hi! :)
So back to work today
after a great weekend at Beacons.
Highlights:
Willis Earl Beal
Willy Mason
Ghostpoet
king krule
Factory Floor
Could have done with more places to sit in the arena but all in all a good festival.
What was everyones thoughts?
It was a good weekend.
Even with the smell from the overflowing toilets, and areas resembling the Somme.
Highlights:
Factory Floor.
Hookworms.
That Fucking Tank.
Blacklisters.
The best festival real ale bar in Christendom.
The Skipton pie and mash place.
Not so good:
Some fairly weak bands/artists, with some strange scheduling. Factory Floor at 8pm???
The security staff seemed genuinely confused as to what they were meant to be doing.
But I did have a good time. And with a stronger line-up, I can see myself possibly making the 250 mile round trip next year.
surprised not see more miffling
had a really really good time with the music (and I can't stress that any more) but some pretty serious organisation snarfus made stewarding a stressy nightmare, and i'd feel pretty irritated if I'd paid given the campsite problems/conditions.
To be honest.
I got two tickets for £25 with being part of the VW "instillation", that was in a separate field to general camping. I did get my mileage very wrong in my other post mind... A round trip from London did cost a fair wack in petrol. So I'll have to give it some consideration about making the journey next year. I did like the general feel of it all though. It reminded be of the first year of latitude, but on a smaller scale.
you people made my life very difficult
(
Who me???
How so?
haha, sorry, bit of a joke
basically I was stewarding in the campsite when it became clear that it was absolutely not big enough, and the VW crew had loads of space they weren't using but we were absolutely not allowed to let people camp in it (or in the similarly half-empty VIP field), despite there being nowhere else to send them.
I guess that must of looked a bit odd.
We were asked to line our VW's up in the field in the daytime, but it never really happened to any great degree. It was meant to be a small VW show, where people could come and look around the (mostly) vans. But it never really did was it was meant to do. Shame really.
My thoughts..
