I can appreciate that it must be really, really shit facing a barrage of criticism, being told you'll never be as good as you were, and generally becoming the punchline to various mean-spirited jokes.
But he lays it on a bit thick. He's has a good run, sold a shitload of albums, won some awards, travelled the world. For everyone who told him he's a fat knob in a hat, there's probably some kid with a tattoo who knows every word to every song. He should look on the bright side. He's done better than most.
And I say this as someone who thinks From Under the Cork Tree and Infinity on High are two of the greatest pop albums of their generation.
Because he made this:
because in the grand scheme of things, he's had a brilliant run. But I can appreciate the fact that he's wanted to change and get his fans to appreciate his new work. It's an uphill struggle when you come from a band that big. But I don't see why he can't just do behind the scenes stuff - writing/producing/whatever - instead of feeling the need to tour and make his own work. It's still music related.
And I don't particularly believe his schtick about 'having enough money to live on for a few years' - the band were huge, sold shitloads of records, still get played on the radio, and he's absolutely set for life.
Band finances have been a big talking point on here recently, and while Fall Out Boy were an order of magnitude bigger than a toilet venue UK band, I'd be surprised if he's made enough to retire at the age of 27. Why do you think so many middle-aged celebs end up on reality TV, dancing for applause? Bad management, unfavourable record deals, poor investment choices, drugs and women - it all adds up.
the backstory is that prior to that post, he'd been effectively in hiding since just before Christmas.
As for performing vs. songwriting - maybe he *wants* to perform his own songs? Performers are a funny breed at the best of times, and after several years of Wentz taking on chief lyric duties I can see how he'd want to reassert himself in that manner.
If he is genuinely depressed, it's an absolute bitch that takes no prisoners (or make any rational sense to others). So he has my sympathies on that front.
Especially since Folie A Deux is my favourite Fall Out Boy album
Is it SO different from the previous two?
but it's a bit longer and FOB had fallen out of fashion by that point.
From Under The Cork Tree > Folie A Deux > Take This To Your Grave > An Evening Out With Your Girlfriend > Infinity On High.
because even though his music took a massive fucking nosedive, he seemed really happy and he looked amazing (check out those before/afters)
imagine if you really turned your life around, and in turn all you got back is shit. i can see why he's upset.
i'm sure he'll get over it, though.
you put shit out, you should expect to get shit in return.
DECEASED SERIOUS ABOUT GOING TO ITCHY AND SCRATCHY LAND.
