Has anyone else noticed that the old Avalanche (now called Love Music) is a bit rubbish now? Very disappointing.
Volcanic Tongue which is probably the coolest record shop in the world.
but it certainly has gone down hill in the last year. The prices are steep and they have hardly any vinyl. However there is really no need to go there because Monorail is still probably the best record shop I have ever been in(including the Rough Trades) and it is run by Stephen Pastel, of legendary Indie band The Pastels. He and all the staff are pretty friendly and cool and they have a setup for vinyl and cd's.
unless you were picking up a cheap copy of a "classic" record you've never heard before
The one in Shawlands on the South side. I fucking loved it in there and Glen used to sell me records pre-release.
Monorail is alright but I have to walk through that bloody cafe to get in to it.
Monorail is an excellent record shop, some great finds in there.
On topic, the last time I was in Glasgow I noticed that Fopp seemed to have expanded their vinyl section.
They have indeed expanded the vinyl section. However, i'm a bit disappointed with the lack of bargains in Fopp these days. There used to be a large section of £3 CDs that would get changed every couple of weeks. Seems to be the same stuff for ages now.
£39 for a copy of beach house-team dream on vinyl that's robbery, monorail is the best cool staff great selection of records-fair prices and it's part owned by dep downie who is definetly the brains behind the whole operation
Picked up most of The Stones albums I have lost/given away over the years for £6 - bargain.
Anybody had a gander in there yet?
Were on argyle street is it?
same side as Ticket Scotland.
That has been under the Central Station bridge for about 5 years now! It is all second hand stuff now. Used to have loads of great vinyl for about £4 each. They seem to be wise to that now and price accordingly for sought after records now though
It was there and closed for a number of years, so it's only re-opened within the last year or so.
