How much do bands get paid to play live?

sean [Edit] [Delete] 13 replies 22:28, 23 February '12

Some interesting numbers http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/earshot/sunset-junction-bankrupt-hanson-butch-walker-294641
But I've also heard some crazy numbers for acts playing UK festivals. Always surprised by the acts we can't afford to book for our stage at Summer Sundae...

    • crazy.

there's no way Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are 440 times better than your band.

  • Tried to book Field Music once

We were quoted £500, this was just after Measure came out a few years ago. Seemed fairly cheap really, although sadly out of our budget.

Most of the bands I've helped to put on were around the £150-250 mark, but you do get some stupidly large figures from booking agents sometimes.

  • Surprised that Lil Jon 'only' costs 10K...

and that Art Brut command 8K (to Helmet's 5K)

Also, would have thought that Peaches and Clap Your Hands... booking fees would be the other way round

  • I remember a couple of years ago when a promoter I know spent £250 booking a hyped band whose lead singer was the daughter of a celebrity.

    They brought three people.

    • Was it Sting's progeny?

      Alex-in-Ciderland @theguywithnousername | 23 Feb '12, 23:13 | X
      • It was not.

To be fair, it was a band I fully expected to bring about three people. The promoter was understandably disappointed though.

        • was it julian lennon?

          ?

          chris-budget @theguywithnousername | 23 Feb '12, 23:19 | X
          • No but I now really, really, really wish it was.

I bet he still charges quite a lot. And brings at least twelve people.

            • was it Princess Beatrice of York?

              • It'd clearly be wrong for me to name who the famous Dad was

but I can rule out Time Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden, Chris Packham, Kate Humble and Simon King.

                • So you are going to leave us to assume that it was Bill Oddies daughters band Rosie Oddie & The Odd Squad
