I don't remember that one.
and I didn't pretend
I haven't listened to it for a few months but I still really enjoy it when I do
My favourite is 808s
So weird that 808s has become the left-field favorite for people, I hear it more and more these days. Its ok and his its moments but hell no way is it better than any of his first 3 albums, or even MBDTWFFSASDF.
Although I have been confused by this revisionist thing that's going on with it.
808s > MBDTF > College Dropout = Graduation > Late Registration
I'm sure someone will tell me i need to look at them in the mirror or something. They do the same with my Radiohead ordering (no, i'm not going to do it)
is still too tight for folks to be honest about it. Everyone's pinched off on either side and aren't ready to budge.
As we seem to be sphinctered over this one
*puts on sunglasses, walks away*
its an overstuffed but still pretty-great album that has a couple bombs and a few greats and suffers from really muddy/clippy production. For a record that sounds as expensive as it does, it doesn't *sound* expensive, which for me is its biggest fault.
if the sound quality on MBDTF was as good as "watch the throne" i would enjoy it far more, but like you said its muddy/fuzzy/clippy
Goes on at least a couple of times a month.
I've never really had time for his stuff, but that album is fucking incredible. It surprises me every time
though I think Late Registration (and maybe The College Dropout) are even better. Late Registration is genius.
Sure, it's got some banging tracks, but I find it really inconsistent compared to his other stuff.
However, i'm a minority there, so...
Too many 'woah-ohs' at the end, too many guests, too much self-importance.
It's one of those tracks that would be more hard-hitting if it was shorter, as it would keep its momentum all the way through. Block Rockin' Beats and Smells Like Teen Spirit are a couple more tunes that suffer from 'should be 3 minutes not 5' disorder. They don't change or build, they just keep going.
It's my favourite song on the album.
Is that the one with the Chris Rock skit at the end? Actually a decent skit as they go, but completely out of place if so.
only listen to one or two tracks every so often at the moment as i must have listened to the album through about 50 times when it came out but damn its good
turns out growers are the best albums after all
Penises are the best albums after all?
But no-one mentioned how sexist so much of it is...like, are some people saying it's really ok now to demand a blow-job and to talk about women like that so openly and publicly? And does listening to that on repeat not sink in at some point and normalize your idea of how men and women should 'interact'? Or is that like thinking everyone who plays Grand Theft will end up joy-riding?
is this a thread to practice your best trolling?
bitches and hos have feelings too.
This is because to say otherwise would make you a racist. And being a racist is worse than being a sexist.
stick to the sparkly piss water
Too white in fact, he blacks up with bronzer each day
as it's largely autobiographical. He openly admits to treating women like shit but then at times feels really bad about doing it (Runaway) and at other times revels in it. He's in a situation where he can have any woman he wants and so takes advantage of that but sometimes goes too far. And then at other points on the record he's bragging about it. I think it's just an honest account of where his mind is and where he is in his life in relation to women. You don't get the guilt aspect in most hip hop talking about their bitches.
I can relate to it a bit as if I'm honest with myself although I'd like to think I'd be sticking to my morals but if I was a good looking rich man or in Kanye's situation I'd be like a kid in a fucking sweet shop.
be honest, was MBDTF the first hip-hop album you ever listened to?
I'm not really bothered about buying it, but on and off for about the last 6 months i've been looking to get it in the shops and nowhere sells it. I've been to HMV's on Oxford Street, Angel, Westfield etc etc, and whilst they have all his other back catologue stuff, not this album.
I know I can probs get it online, but it's becoming a running thing now (out of vague interest) to see if they stock it evertime I go into a record store, and no one ever does. It hasn't been banned or anything like that has it?
The only thing that would be banned would be the original cover, although they use an alternative cover in most shops anyway, but it's reversible so you can have the original one with the weird angel thing with no arms.
It's a rare thing in that the album's many faults are as important as the even more frequent moments of genius to create the all-round feel of something very special. I can't imagine appreciating the album any more if there weren't the same level of self-indulgence.
a few really good pieces, but most of it was wank - like fifth rate mad magazine rip offs or something
All of the Lights is utter wank.
other than that, good album. probably an 8/10.
It's shit. Like a kid with ADHD singing a quarter of a song then more samples then rapping then samples then new tune then samples.
lol. Proper lame.
he managed to fill almost half the album with the kind of hits he was churning out 1 or 2 an album before, so that's why the weaker tracks get a pass.
i almost wish he took the best of that album, and the best of watch the throne and just made one really really fun album.
not that I hate Watch The Throne or anything, but it just isn't in the same league.
power could have easily been on WTT
and it still blows my mind every time.
because of this thread
Pisses me off. Sounds like a demo.
just why are rappers allowed to be misogynistic and homophobic?
Albeit phrased in joke form.
But then mehedor told sean to fuck himself, so don't go there girlfriend.
What's it like?
take from that what you will.
It's a lot interesting than most hip hop albums.
Now to weigh in on misogynistc/homophobe thing.
Absolutely it's offensive. And fuck you youngsters who'll say "I just don't get it." Oh, I get it. Half the black population is locked up or worse because they buy into this shit.
