Bloody rubbish aren't they? I just put Tarantula on and it sucks!
This, on the other hand, is amazing....
...is that Coming Up For Air (which is actually pretty good)?
It is actually their cover of "Sight of You"....which is dreamy pop at its best
is brilliant! one of their best singles.
about Black Nite Crash, but the rest is pretty terrible
to be fair..
off the expanded Carnival.. is pretty good too.
That was an unpopular opinion at the time, and I guess it's one now too..
I remember sitting on my bedroom floor with my finger on the record button. I love the version of Birdman they did, it was much more in keeping with their previous stuff. I was gutted when I heard the single when it came out.
I remember Mark being interviewed after they split, saying how he wanted them to expand on what they did on their second album. If only.
because Don't Let It Die was part of that session (with i think Crown Of Creation, Birdman and.. uh one other) and it was a great sesh, way better than the final versions.
Was "Walk on water", which ended up on Tarantula, and was an awful recorded version.
Don't let it die started off being called Since Then - think a couple of those four songs from the session were played in the Weekender double header with The Charlatans.
Final album was dire - spoken word section in Mary-Anne(?) was so much the opposite of those glorious early EPs and first album.
and it was amazing too!
when I was younger, but then you get into all the bands that influenced it (Byrds, Stones, etc) and who did that sort of stuff waaaaaaay better. No point listening to it after that. I remember "Let's Get Lost" being a great B-side, though.
Tarantula was just crap.
and I *know* I never bothered listening to the 4th.
Pretty fucking amazing before that, though. Today Forever = best EP ever.
Loz Colbert = greatest drummer of his generation by some distance. it's only as i've got older i've realised just HOW amazing he was. as a kid i grew up thinking all drummers would be that good. not so.
