Grimes. Visions. Streaming in full.
It is a little bonkers in places. Lots of high-pitched bit which take you a bit by surprised. Haven't made my mind up about it yet but it isn't out until March 12th (although maybe its been bought forward if it's already streaming).
Anyway, give it a listen and report back http://www.npr.org/2012/02/06/146463100/first-listen-grimes-visions

nearly every blog has posted about this
and tonnes of people have tweeted about it.
yet i've seen next to no-one say how much they like it. i was pretty disappointed by it but then the 'buzz' led me to believe it would be so much more than Halifaxa which I thought was ok for a little esoteric bedroom album.
can't understand why this is getting disproportionate attention to say White Hinterland or Kate Wax or Luke Abbott or Policia or John Talabot or even planningtorock who are relatively similar and far 'better' IMFO. is it cus it's 4AD? (and how well they plot and market things, as well as their rep) or because she fits more into the new band box therefore is shiny and new and more exciting? or because she's young, not unattractive and Canadian?
(it's at this moment that I realise I've broken my new year's resolution of caring what blogger's think and trying to comprehend how hype works...)
It's the 'oh shit, I can't get left behind' element
hence why everyone's silently forced into tweeting and talking about it just so they can look on the ball, yet not actually display an opinion on it.
The album's OK but it's nothing groundbreaking or amazing. I guess they've just marketed it well so far. But I agree, there's far superior solo acts releasing at the moment with half the hype of this.
Vanessa >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> everything else she's done
I do like the album though, but it's not anywhere near the level I'd hoped
just heard Genesis for the first time today.
holy christ.
great eyebrows, as well
6/10
Maybe this is why people like Grimes' music
first,I have to say I did not realise she was a 'must hear' on the internet. Frankly, not interested.
I can see why though people would fall in love with her music.
Evidently, she's got very much her own sound. You can recognise her very individual style on all her records.
The music web she spins from track to track tells a personal story you can follow. I think people respond to that.
You can immerse yourself in the worlds she create, it's very ethereal and other worldly in most parts.
I listened to Polica for the first time this afternoon - it was not a bad track. It was accomplished, but somewhat over polished and in the end, pretty bland to me. Maybe the rest of the album will be different. I'll take Grimes any day.
I'm really looking forward to hearing the feed. Thanks for the links. From what I've heard, it sounds good. I agree with the rest though that her last two albums were uneven in places, I'm hoping for more consistency. Will report back. :)
I've listened to the stream
Wow! Not at all what I expected.
It's very consistent and very tight but ... a lot more pop and dancey than I though it would be. She's all gone Madonna on us! Proves the girl's versatily. It's going to be a huge hit, a good pop record.
I like it though despite the new 'orientation'. It's still her, still very idiosyncratic.
This is great
all the people saying "oh but what about this person who isn't getting hyped" or "people are all just jumping on a hype bandwagon" can bog off.
always seems to be the case
I don't like it= it's only popular because of hype
I like it = hype doesn't come into it
I haven't heard Visions yet but I've been listening to the last 2 quite a lot, she's brilliant
It's bloody good.
I'll admit I'd never heard of Grimes before today but I'm very impressed.
8/10 for me at the moment.
