no drums
songs adhering to some kind of convential 'pop' structure that would normally have drums that, uh, don't have drums.

Iggy Pop : Wanna be your dog
Billy Bragg: New England
That sort of thing?
I don't remember there being drums in Coldplay's 'Don't Panic', but that might not be due to anything other than faulty memory.
yup
I love playing 'New England' on my geetar. can't quite pull of the requisite cockney accent, so it doesn't sound right when I sing it. ace song, though.
There are definitely drums in I Wanna Be Your Dog
High Philve!
I was gonna say
rock action is sure nuff there
Wanna be your dog definitely has drums, doesn't it?
yep you're both right.
there was a version i saw on tv (bbc2 music program probably some time in the late 90's, can't remember which one) which was just iggy playing guitar and that's the version i always associate with the song.
i want to see this version
Quite like a bit of no drums where there should be drums every so often!
I really like the Ramleh album 'Grudge For Life' that is a pretty normal noise rock album with good riffs but no drums. And the new Howling Hex album has no drums. Only heard one song but I quite like it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0Oxzv2uAok
Neil Michael Hagerty is GOOD
I believe there's another Howling Hex album with no drums too that someone mentioned a while back.
I like that Howling Hex song
never bothered to check them out before. love Royal Trux and Pussy Galore; I guess I ignored HH because Pitchfork always gives them mediocre 6.something scores. damn you, Pitchfork|!
yeah!
I really like the HH/NMH stuff I have. He has his own weird style that required a bit of listening to make sense for me but now that it does he seems pretty singular and unique to me! Would definitely recommend 'Neil Michael Hagerty Plays That Good Old Rock & Roll' as a nice starting point. It does have drums though that one.
Have you listened to the new Jennifer Herrema stuff as Black Bananas? I don't think I like it very much :(
Hey, I was gonna say that Ramleh album!
It's good, huh?
It is! Hello only other person I know who has heard it!
The bassist from Melvins/Cows has a new band that was almost like a tribute to it Sunn -> Earth style. Before he got drums. They're called Hepa/Titus. Dunno about the name mind.
I dunno, it could be worse.
It’s not like the name could be misconstrued into being a negative reference to people with Down ’s syndrome.
I wonder how much that Sunn O))) riff changes simply with the addition of drums.
I dunno where you'd put the drums in the mix for Sunn
it would probably just sound like those mega slow Burning Witch ones like Sea Hag!
Maybe you could change the s on the end to a z. That might distract people from the syndrome thing. Yes, definitely do that.
the other Howling Hex album is Earth/Junk
I think it's really great
Lana Del Ray - Videogames
OBVIOUSLY
The are SOME drums
Ooh, I like these songs!
Makes them feel more intimate. A couple that spring to mind:
The White Stripes - In The Cold, Cold Night
The White Stripes (again) - We're Going To Be Friends
Scott Walker - Boy Child
boy child is a good shout!
i think a few of his songs don't have drums. does the opener have any? maybe maracas. also tracks like Clara i guess.
Aw man
I came here to mention In The Cold, Cold Night! Good show.
Jar of Cardinals and A Good Flying Bird by Guided By Voices
I always expect HUGE drums to suddenly EXPLODE out of those songs in the last few seconds, but they never do. They never do.
Oh yeah, The King & Caroline too.
Boom-tst-boom-boom-tst-boom-tst-boom-tst.
like this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9l8nv90N4o
Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel
There's probably a bit of percussion in there but I don't really remember any drums...
Radiohead - Creep
that and the I Wanna Be Your Dog suggestion
good work.
In my head, both these songs have big clattering drums.
there was an 'electro' rework of wanna be your dog
a couple of years back by ascii disko, which had big beefy fuck off drums in it.
i'm sure i heard that (or a knock off, dance music's funny like that) on telly.
and in real life?
I bet you there's a tap-t-tap-tap-t-t-tap kind of fill that opens I Wanna Be Your Dog, too, right?
Yeah, but that's a piano I think.
My internal playback features drums though.
I'm so confused.
Are you all trolling or something
the song has drums in it
are you thinking of We Will Fall?
i don't understand any of this sub-thread
creep has drums
wat?
Listen again
I think you'll find you're mistaken
Na it has drums in it
You're wrong.
Pretty sure I'm right
The bits that sound like drums is just Jonny doing 'clever stuff' on his guitar
i'm confused as to why you even think this
i can't find anything about it online (and given the level of deconstruction given to radiohead songs, you'd think it'd be there)
there's also the fact that it really obviously sounds like drums, and phil is credited as percussion on the song credits.
IT'S FUCKING DRUMS, CRISPIN. HE'S DOING THE SORT OF TROLLING THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN FUNNIER HAD CHARLIE BROOKER NOT BEEN DOING THE SAME FOR MONTHS
okay i got that now
:(
my guard is down on this forum, nobody trolls like that
:D
You know that saxophone bit in Baker Street?
i love this post
Thought this might be a tim hecker thread
yeah you did
intentional. now you're here, you have to post some drumless songs otherwise the guards won't let you out.
Six By Seven - A Beautiful Shape
Not quite no drums, but they only kick in right at the end of the song, releasing the tension that's been building to that point.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t22k2mNHBlY
(or http://open.spotify.com/track/5keBueJLY9oUiG73MDk4SH for less horrible audio quality)
Avril Lavigne - Complicated (acoustic version)
I Wanna Be Your Dog doesn't have any drums
everyone was right, as you were.
AAAAARGH
I'm leaving this thread now,
because I just checked to make sure that Creep and I Wanna Be Your Dog had drums and now the drums sound completely out of place.
What drums?
Fuck the fuck off you fucking fuckers, this is killing me.
think you're listening to some dubstep remixes there m8
Any song on Ala Muerte's first album
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoIWZjZ2Huk
Just to confirm, guys, I've listened to Creep and there definitely aren't any drums
Maybe it's some kind of medical condition.
This

Any song by zapsta's (London based) band
:)
true love waits by radiohead?
Other songs without drums
Led Zeppelin - When The Levee Breaks
The Stooges - I Wanna Be Your Dog
Radiohead - Creep
Nearly in tears
The Drums don't have a drummer do they?
that's why their name is so clever
Modest Mouse - Float On
REM
let me in
sorry just checked
creep does have drums.
Easy mistake to make
when they sound so much like guitar effects
Velvet Underground
Their first record doesn't (really) have drums does it?
It does
Not as much as a lot of other records, and it does have stretches with more tambourine etc than drums, but they're there. Waiting For The Man and All Tomorrow's Parties both have very prominent drums, for instance.
Anything by the Boredoms
Liars - Drum's Not Dead
Every song
what's that Radiohead song with no drums...?
this is bugging me
Electioneering?
No, it's There There.
i think you'll find its I Wanna Be Your Dog
Pretty sure it's When The Levee Breaks
You're right
http://vimeo.com/11696961
very clever guitar work
I love the way they not only make their guitars sound like drums
they make them look like drums as well. But that's the genius of the boredoms. Definitely my favourite band who don't have a drummer.
Favourite solo artist without a drummer?
Scout Niblett
Dave Grohl
Ini Kamoze
this peice of filth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9L5zbaQML0
That's a good song.
Although - and I don't want to sound pretentious here - the rhythm guitar was making up for the lack of bass/drums, though.
The rhythm guitar basically was the drums and bass.
I just find it interesting when bands go out of their way to prove that key requirements are not needed, but in doing so, prove that they are needed..
yeah that is interesting
this thread
Do you wanna know whats next?
Brian Eno - St Elmo's Fire
must have listened to this dozens of times before realising there are no drums. there's hand percussion, but the main drive is from the piano. so good. www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-3djUYgebU
it's about songs that might normally have drums
but in some cases don't.
it was a good idea that slowly descended into farce, with people actually suggesting 'Creep' had drums in it (when it clearly doesn't).
Slowly descended into farce?
Don't blame the drumless creepers, the very first post was i wanna be your dog.
OK, I've read your post properly now
delete last remark. I totally agree, this thread could have been brilliant and then crispinalexander completely ruined it.
Speedy J - Fill 17
Fuckin' hell, what a great beatless track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKl4SJkuIQ0
The Beatles(s)
in the air tonight
drums would ruin its understated appeal
Psychic TV - The Orchids
btw
I love Answering Machine :)
jesus people
some of you are deaf.
obvious answer is Japan - Ghosts. a top 5 hit too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHy3b7tsSyk

velvets: black angel's death song
green day: dime of your life
patti smith: hey joe
Sufjan Stevens - Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b0fdETmRng
Les Savy Fav - Comes and Goes
Slightly cheating with this one as it has a kick drum and egg shaker but hopefully we can let it slip as theyre not that prominent http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNo47OTbS_A
No-one's said O Superman?
'"No Flashlight"...' by Mount Eerie has no drums on it
That's why Phil Elverum released 'The Drums from "No Flashlight" by Mt. Eerie'. What you have to do is simulataneously play '"No Flashlight"...' and 'The Drums...' side-by-side, so you can hear what the songs on '"No Flashlight"...' sound like with drums. Sneeky Phil Elverum, trying to get you to spend more money on his albums.
why was this funny?
telling lies isn't funny.
Maybe not.
But making CrispinAlexander reel off some mega-serious post in reply to the lies was.
Little -mer Boy
Give The -mer Some
Any 'n'bass tune you can think of - turns out that all that stuff is Jonny Greenwood going ka-chunk on his guitar. Kevin Shields must be kicking himself
Most songs by Def Leppard (post 84)
only have half a drum on them.....does this count?
THE DRUMMER FROM DEF LEPPARD'S ONLY GOT ONE ARM
very clever drum work
Kate Bush - The Big Sky
Moby Dick
The new Nick Cave album has a few of these
eg We Real Cool
