... in 1992
was very good!
with Carter on just before?
i didn't start going til the year after. 10 Damnations was great. i wonder why they stopped being so popular after The Love Album? always found that baffling. i guess Britpop killed them off you could say. their mate Jon Beast was just about the friendliest guy in indie rock.
at the internet - it seems James did play on same stage that year - but perhaps first on?
Headliners were Carter, Shakespeare's Sister and Youssou N'dour!!!
and came on with his song We Hate It When Our Friends Become Succesful. 'the net' seems to back this up but who the hell knows anymore. the early 1990s are like some under-documented post Acid House pre Britpop no man's land and no one can recall what the hell was going on.
Youssou N'Dour?? mind you the first year i went one of the headliners was Steve Winwood. heady days.
James did indeed replace Moz, but was light so def not a headline slot. Carter owned it and I kept a couple of the balls they had fired out the end until very recently. Then I binned them.
saw Jim Bob support Jesus Jones the other day - he played loads of carter stuff acoustically and it was amazing. as was his solo stuff, which i've never been fussed about before
Stank. And as for his comedy set - holy ouch that stinks too.
We've booked Jim Bob to play Bedford Esquires on the 8th June 2012. You should all come!
(I was at Reading in 1991 with Carter USM and James (and Iggy Pop and the Sisters of Mercy))
..wished I'd kept the balls!
