have you heard it?
what do you think?
how does it rank compared to their previous releases (> or <)?
It's really good.
I would say that but seriously, really really strong.
Thought it was a totally self indulgent mess. But it's really grown on me, and although it's overwhelmingly wordy, I find a lot to like about it. Going to have much more staying power than False Priest I reckon.
It’s kind of messy, but then again, that’s never been something you’d begrudge this band. Self indulgence is usually a term you’d reserve for potentially decent bands taking unnecessarily wanky side routes, but I don’t think you can ever really apply that to a mad musical genius/smartypants like Kevin Barnes - at least not if you’re already attached enough to sit through a record like Paralytic Stalks. It’s still horrifically catchy, and when it does indulge, which is often, it does so in a way that’s compelling and vulnerable, which is why I think Barnes retains that bizarre, browbeaten likability.
<JAG> I interviewed him about, amongst other things, Pitchfork’s review of his last album (he wrote an angry retaliation at the time, and has since apologised), here, which you’re welcome to read.
I loved False Priest, liked Skeletal Lamping, ADORE Hissing Fauna but this part of of Montreal Mach 2 I can't get behind
This is Mark 3, not 2. Possibly even 4. OMM2 was pre-Satanic Panic.
