Julia Holter
Tragedy is the best album of the past 90 years
both the songs from the new one are the best songs of the past 89 years
basically SHE'S THE BEST

Really intrigued by the new songs that she posted
Haven't heard tragedy yet but will be picking up her new LP in march. I'm a sucker for eatheral dreamy/drone sound
FACT Mix

This is stunning.
Decided to check her out after seeing that article
Album sounds amazing. Like Grouper but with a bit more going on. Less homogenous maybe. Need to spend some proper time with it...
Tragedy?
It is pretty great, a real grower, a strange mix of ambient and synth pop which surprisingly works brilliantly.
Really looking forward to the new one
Yeah Tragedy
Does she have others? I'd never even heard of her before yesterday!
Oh yes, this too

Very limited release stuff
but you can find links to them about, as is usually the way in the web 2.0 world

cd reissue of tragedy out in a few weeks : )
yeah she's good
Where did she come from all of a sudden?
Loads of press out of nowhere. She's good though.
Never understand when albums start going for that much they don't just repress it immediately kinda tempted to sell my copy if it gets any higher, got sent one of her cassettes twiceby mistake wonder if they will be worth anything. What's the consensus on selling recently released rare stuff is it just as bad as ticket touting?
UK tour in June
Field Day, XOYO, The Brudenell and some shithole in Dublin, all supporting Peaking Lights.
First week of June.
I'm there dude
Stream Ekstasis in full

sounds really lovely
YESSS
gonna put this on late tonight i think. really excited to give it a listen.
Boy In The Moon
is just delicious
does she have a bit of the carpenters madness
or is it just me?
http://www.npr.org/event/music/147351089/julia-holter-in-concert?sc=tw&cc=twmp
stream of her gig RIGHT NOW
this sounds absolutely incredible, with all the songs rearranged for cello/synth/drums.
is XOYO really as bad as people make out? what exactly is bad about it?
is this archived anywhere? getting a Bad Request error
XOYO is ok for some things. Not seen anything thats sounded too terrible there. Better than a lot of venues.
just clicked on the link myself + it works fine. 60 minute show you can d/l as well as video going up in a few days.
XOYO
will be full of people talking over her. It's an awful venue generally full of awful people.
This is sadly true
but it will be a paradise in comparison to Field Day, which is the only other choice for seeing her in the near future. Sad times.
really wish everything about Field Day that isn't the line-up wasn't a crock of shit D'':
I know - just got an email from them and looked at the lineup and felt tempted for a moment
Can't get fooled again. It's a weird cognitive dissonance - a lineup that good surely couldn't be a bad overall experience, and yet it totally is.
is it really so bad?
I really want to go but everything DiS has thrown at me about it seems to say so. The line up is amazing. Think I will brave it out...
Meh
go once, see for yourself.
She's playing Cafe Oto
On June 1st. Is that any better?
got an exam that day innit
Sold
I tried to like her
I really did, but I just don't like her voice. It all sounds a but fussy to these ears. Not for me, thanks.
find this new album a bit dull tbh :/
Pretty excited to find out about this great album from 1922
I adore her
Going to see her support Peaking Lights. Ekstatis is probably going to be my album of the year.
small tour....
does anyone know how and where i can get tickets for manchester.never heard of the engine room.
JUNE
03 Engine House @IABF, Manchester
04 Forbidden Fruit Festival, Dublin
05 Brudenell Social Club, Leeds (w/ Peaking Lights)
06 XOYO, London (w/ Peaking Lights)
It's the 'International Anthony Burgess Foundation' or something
Do you know where The Ritz is? Just go to the bottom of the road The Ritz is on, under the rail bridge and follow the road round until you get to it, I assume that that's the same place anyway. I guess you'd be able to buy tickets from there, or they could at least tell you where to get tickets.
has anyone got/heard/want to send me a copy of the Eating The Stars EP?
dw i found a copy
one of my favorite finds this year.
been listening to Tragedy again
2 or 3 times a day - it's genuinely reallly great, huh
probably ought to get Ekstasis
