Early listens are promising
Default is great.
I'm hooked
Storm is particularly amazing but the album is superb all the way through. I don't think many recent debuts have bettered it. Is anyone going to the show at Rough Trade tomorrow?
Can't wait to get this.
Been longer than I can remember since I last anticipated a release so eagerly.
:D
best debut in x number of years
so so good
what's it sound liiiiike
The Beta Band
Listened to some of this last night...
... and frankly the vocals seemed a bit drab. Am I missing something?
basic taste I think
Could be...
Or it could be that the vocals are really drab...
oh shit really?
I like the Beta Band
and this album seems quite not bad.
If you don't like the Beta Band though maybe it's not for you
i love the beta band
Id say more Canned Heat, Jefferson Airplane with samplers and drum machines.
Can see what you mean about Beta Band though.
Andrew Kennedy gave it 9/10 yesterday for DiS

So Sean
how is this not on your Recommended Records then?
I know I mentioned it below...
but I am aware that recommended records are often consensus among writers...I suspect that, at the time of the Django Django review, few staff had heard it, meaning it couldn't be recommended by all. I think the best thing to do would be to review what gets recommended, though as I understand the new DiS site (which seems to be much like the sophomore Avalanches' effort when it comes to delays) will improve on this greatly.
been waiting for years...
...worth the wait
*needs to get this*
It's looking to be quite a good year for mainstream-ish indie, what with this and the Islet album and Given To The Wild. Also - there does not appear to be a Vaccines or Brother this year, thankfully.
Such a clever album
Didn't get onto the recommended albums list though? Daft.
There's a track by track guide from the band on Spotify
just search Django Django
Default
is the free single of the week on iTunes, for anyone that needs to hear how this sounds...
Streaming anywhere, folks?
Best thing I've heard this year so far.
Which is perhaps not saying much, but a great debut LP all the same.
yeah, it's really mint, like
very very good. right up my street.
several tracks in this is fucking blowing my mind.
This and Errors are my favourite albums of the year. Thanks
It's only fucking January.
Twunt.
Mentioned this on the 2012 recommended album thread
But it got kind of lost on there. This album really reminds me of Clinic, almost more so than the Beta Band.
I love it.
I'm often stupidly suspicious when an album sounds this good on the first couple of listens
But I know this will be a classic album.
I remain suspicious
but benefit of the doubt from me for now
Got a ticket for their Manchester show, suprised it wasn't sold out.
YESSS
Very, very, very good.
...it's a fantastic album.....and
is likely to make you smile contently, go see them live, you'll be purring....and um, yes, elements of Beta Band, Clinic etc but definitively Djangoesque.
Erm.
This is like an album of Of Montreal b-sides. Which is fine but...it's nowhere near as astonishing as this thread had me believe.
It sounds nothing like Of Montreal
i see.
not like the icelandic twins bonus album in particular.
it kind of feels royksopp remixing OM in fact.
im not saying this is a bad record y'hear? it's just not MINDBLOWING YO as this thread would have me believe
great username
Some of it soundalike The Bees
Earworm two mornings running; Storm.
Got this as a result of the DiS review, even though it wouldn't usually be my sort of thing.
I like it a lot. I get a bit of a Merriweather Post Pavilion vibe from it as well.
Given this quite a few listens
it's okay
Stop saying Django in there.
It's really really great.
Been listening to it a lot over the past month.
other people still feeling it?
I'm off to see them tonight. Really looking forward to it
reminds me very strongly of
Piper At The Gates
Saw them live last week
They were so great, and really different to what I expected. The dustbowl guitars on the album were replaced with very Hot Chippy synths, it was a big ole dance party.
Its one of those albums
that you feel really familiar with after only two or three listens, the songs have such overt quality. I love it
I bought this around the time I joined here
I still listen to it more than once a month, it's genuinely proven to be a great wee album.
