Optimus Primavera Sound - Porto
Am contemplating go to this instead of the Barcelona this year. Appreciate it will have a slightly different line up and will presumably be on a smaller scale given the cheaper ticket price, just wondered if any one had any thoughts or inside knowledge about what to expect / how it will compare etc.

Basically, there's gonna be 4 stages
with about 50% the amount of bands Barca gets, most of the headliners will be common to both though apparently. The site is dead close to the beach too which is cool. I'm really looking forward to it!
Excellent choice...
Good site, great lineup, lovely food and cheap booze... what else could you ask for...
Considering this as well.
Anybody had any luck with cheap-ish flights? I.e. preferably under 100quid return?
Cost me £150 for return flights.
Although that is from Edinburgh and includes changing at Gatwick. Think it cost just under £100 from Gatwick return.
That was with Easyjet btw
trying
Sorry about that.
Finding an appartment is becoming a pain in the arse. There's about eight of us going. Trying to find a big enough apartment is hard work.
do you have any tips on apartment sites?
There are ten of us, which is obviously more or less out of the question as a single apartment anyway, guess we're going to try for two fives or a five and a four...
It's been more difficult than finding apartments in Barcelona.
I think we've found two smaller ones in the same building that we can all fit into. It's a bit of a treck to the festival though. I've been using thiss site http://www.rent-holiday-homes.com amongst others.

The hostels are also a very good choice

Hostels in Porto are definitely
a much better choice than flats...

my friends and i are almost definitely booking tickets for this this week
so ridiculously excited, never been to a festival abroad before and the lineup and location look perfect. Flights seem to be in the £100-150 range which isn't bad, and hostels are looking absurdly cheap.
and you will certainly love the food :)
In this game we also trashing over the spanish.

I can't wait to try the Francesinha!
Where is the best place in Porto to get one?
Café Santiago
Passos Manuel Street, no.226 - in the center of Porto, near of "Coliseu do Porto".
yeah the francesinha looks amazing
kind of want one right now.
Where have you looked at flying from?
and what dates?
I had a look last night (flying from edinburgh and manchester. No-one goes to Porto from Newcastle) and there were very few flights and seemed pretty dear.
we're in the west midlands but looking at flying from London
leaving on the Wednesday evening and coming back Sunday evening. The cheapest for those dates on skyscanner is £113 at the moment. Wish I had enough time to make it a proper holiday, maybe go to Lisbon or Madrid too, but it's in the middle of termtime and it'll be hard enough getting 2 days off as it is.
oh, thank you so much for reminding me about sky scanner
I'm such an idiot.
was gonna do Porto but too many bands i want to see only...
...doing Barca, so no dice!
Yep, done barca twice and it was too busy last year and seems to be selling faster this year
It's also like half the price, and get to try a new city.
Flights for £130 flying to madrid, 2 days then, then on to porto then back to gatwick
see you there!
(primavera that is, not madrid)
exactly the same reason why i'm choosing Porto
yeah gonna do this
class it as a holiday. id pay 85euro for, say, bjork, nmh, walkmen and galaxie 500.
probably less touristy and better for food/beach too.
Porto has better food than Barcelona? Really?
in the surrounding area of the festival
as in, to go for a late lunch before or nip out for food during a dead hour.
I've not forgiven Barcelona for the absence of pizza cones last year
always depends on the type of food you like,
but by my experience I have no doubt of it.
Admittedly, there's little around the Forum...
... but Barcelona is one of the culinary centres of the world, with huge range of places to choose from. Easy to get around during the day too with great transport system, so the world's your oyster really if you want to eat well
Budget hotel pretty near the venue
http://www.hotelstarinn.com/en
It's near the road called Circunvalação which goes directly down to the seaside and the venue. There are buses all the time, so no problem with transportation.
Have fun, those of you who go, and while you are down there by the sea, try the fish restaurants in Matosinhos for some yummy food. The Francesinha is great, but it's a cholesterol bomb. One is enough!
Press conference announced for 15 Feb
Exact time unknown.
