Debut album by this fantastic band out on Monday
Ever since 2010 when they released the two best EPs + played two of the best gigs I saw that year I've been waiting to hear the first long player by this group. It's been streaming over on Soundcloud and Bandcamp for the past few days and it is indeed very very good. 10 tracks on which, while their aesthetic tendencies have not changed so much, they display a new passion to explore their sonic pallete as much as they explore the venues in which they perform. So we get the standard Islet pillars of double drums, fuzz organs, Native American howling, dub bass and Sonic Youth guitars which saw them set themselves up as perhaps a British Gang Gang Dance or maybe a less gimmicky The Go! Team just a couple of years ago. But this time they're back with a vengeance: the playing is tighter, the drums groovier and the experimentation more confident.
