I started a thread on this too and it made about as much of an impact.
Don't get it but there you go.
'Something' is an album I've been looking forward to with mounting anticipation for a few weeks now and my expectations were high.
I've given it one spin fully so far and I'm enjoying it though I reckon I'll enjoy it more after a few more listens. It's brilliant sparkly 80s infused pop music.
Could be an 8/10 - it depends on whether the slower tracks like 'Cool As Fire' and 'Turning' grow on me. I heard them again last night and they're sounding better...
Amanaemonesia
is incredible http://soundcloud.com/chairlift/amanaemonesia
I recommended it this morning at another thread too!
Looks all set to be my first music buy of the year!
What am I talking about - THIS IS MY THREAD!!
What no one has even started another thread on this either?
Bloody hell, I must be out of touch.
Listening now
Sounds very good so far. Have put it on my birthday list.
Awesome - thanks for the tip.
I've been a big fan of all the tracks they've put out in advance. Going to stream it now. I'll report back.
First listen was pretty darn good.
I think a lot of the songs will come into their own with a few listens. A grower for sure.
Is everything as annoying and self-satisfied
As Bruises?
I'm not sure how 'Bruises' sounds "self-satisfied" but I don't think this album does.
If anything it's shrugged off a lot of the pretense which did hold down their debut.
They're honest to God pop songs about love for the most part and that frees the tracks up to breath more I think.
As much as I like the quirky 'Evident Utensil', much of this album is better and it flows as well - there's never a feeling that it's laboured.
It's a very early contender for best Pop album of 2012 (and by that I mean it's influenced by classic pop music as opposed to just being popular which it probably won't be).
I've heard the Chairlift album twice via the link above. It's a great album.
The new album by First Aid Kit is also streaming via the link above. That's an excellent album too.
I'll probably end up buying tickets to see Chairlift and First Aid Kit.
Turned out to be an expensive link. Thanks though.
I'm trying to find a new language to describe how much I'm enjoying this LP...
It's definitely an 8/10 and I hope DiS concur. They had the same opinion of 'Rapprocher' by Class Actress so I have faith.
My only gripe with it (and it's a small one) is that I'm not really keen on the track 'Frigid Spring'. It's ok but it's the weakest thing here.
Perhaps they should have considered putting this b-side on instead called 'Peculiar Paradise':

I haven't had the chance to hear the bonus track 'Grown Up Blues' either.
Will be buying this on CD nevertheless.
Bought this at lunchtime.
Brilliant!
this just in from the PR...
CHAIRLIFT's new album SOMETHING is out now on Young Turks and you can stream THE WHOLE THING here: http://soundcloud.com/chairlift/sets/something-out-now
If you're one those people who are ALL ABOUT THE FREE DOWNLOAD you'll be equally excited to hear that the amazing I BELONG IN YOUR ARMS is available to download for NOWT PENCE.
It's iTunes Single of the Week, so it is. Well done iTunes:

And for those of you who missed Chairlift's cracking Electrowerkz show last year: they're coming back to play London's Borderline on 6 March. HUZZAH!
The band have also announced a world tour taking in Australia, Europe and the US, inc SxSW.
I think since Aaron broke up with Polachek...
it would have been awkward for him to stick around and savour the success to say the least.
Probably the best thing that could have happened to the band though in retrospect.
Can I ask, will DiS be reviewing this?
Seems odd that it's been a week since it's release and still no review.
Just asking.

it's actually only four days since its release!
And to my knowledge hasn't been reviewed in many other publications
so far...?
A fair few, though not sure when these all date from
http://anydecentmusic.com/review/4057/Chairlift-Something.aspx
Right.
More than I though. Opinion seems quite varied as well from Uncut's 4 (out of 5 maybe?) to a couple of 9s which seem a little OTT personally.
**thought**
No that Uncut score is two stars
it's ok
gave it a listen on spotify
prefer New Look
New Look's debut album has died on me a little I must confess.
It sounded like one of the most exciting things I'd heard in a while last year but it didn't hold it's value for long with me. I still think it's a fairly impressive LP though.
I'm not sure the comparison is a fair one here though. That's a very stripped down electronic album where as this exists almost at the other end of that scale. It's joyous out and out pop music and there's nothing that shameless on the cool and sophisticated New Look release.
Saw these guys at a Young Turks showcase the other day
Had only heard the track they did with Das Racist which was clearly very jokey so had no idea what they'd be like. Bowled me over. Absolutely loving the album, mostly because I fell in love with the singer, but also because it's perfect to listen to now the sun's out. Great stuff.
