Really like the stuff from his new record.
Never paid much attention to him before. Where's the best place to start?
Saint Bartlett a lot. The song Cloudy Shoes is lovely stuff.
followed by 'Rehearsals for Departure' which is also brilliant. He's over here to play again soon for those that are interested:
Camden Enterprise - Monday 23rd Jan
Cargo - Monday 12th March
Only London dates for now unfortunately.
i'll rate for the hell of it - caught in the trees > rehearsals for departure > saint bartlett > i break chairs (very different to his other stuff more indie guitar at heart) > Hoquiam (his other band Hoquiam) > And now that i'm in your shadow > Where shall you take me > ghost of david > Holding his breath > Water Ave >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> on my way to absence (not sure why, but this album never did anything for me)
a couple of months ago asking why he isn't as revered a songwriter as Elliott Smith when, in my opinion, he is at least his equal. It got about as much love as this one has which only confirms my thoughts that he's the most criminially under-rated songwriter of the last decade or so.
Every single one of his records is well worth investigation, Caught In The Trees is arguably the best of his recent work but I would argue that its between Ghost of David and Where Shall You Take Me for his finest record. Where Shall You Take Me is our generations Pink Moon, a profound claustrophobic masterpiece that breaks your heart in half an hour flat

Why this man is not more popular god only knows. Brilliant stuff.
Would have loved to go to this, he didn't play anywhere within 4 hours of me though.
