Six By Seven
AWESOME
Does this have anything to do with the demos for 6x7's abandoned post-Kill-Your-Doctor album? Coz I haven't heard them yet (out of disappointment, mostly)
10 seconds into the first track
...it appears to have much, much more to do with Twelve. No bad thing, really.
Ah but what's this...harmonica? Could this be the synthesis of all things Olley?
He's sort of turning into Jason Pierce?
Pleasant surprise indeed, so is it any good then? Adored this band
back in the day and must have seen them live around 20 times. Let's be honest though the last couple of albums were pretty poor, will check this out tonight though. Mildly excited.
The last couple of albums?
The only piss-poor album they did was the 3rd one, out of 8. Yes, they did 8 albums.
there's surely no way you can describe an album featuring
So Close, American Beer, the title track and Bad Man as "piss-poor", although I'll agree that it doesnt match the consistent brilliance of the first two records.
So Close is incredible and Bad Man is good
The rest, I could really do without
Biggest quality disparity between opening track and remainder of album, ever
I'm not sure I've ever disagreed with a post on here so much!
So close is awesome but what about Cafeteria rats, American Beer, IOU Love and about 4 more?!
Whole album feels too calculated and controlled for me
They were always best when straining at the leash like the beastly soaraway rock titans they always were - but I'll put that down to the peculiarities of taste. At least we agree they were awesome...
I revisited Six by Seven after this thread
and I think the 3rd albums really good. IOU Love, Flypaper for Freaks, Cafeteria Rats etc.
Are the last 4 albums worht getting? Chris is selling them for £1 each :( on bandcamp.
I really enjoyed the 4th but it's quite hit and miss
Didn't like the 5th much. And I didn't know about the others. But for that price, why not have a spin?
We're talking about 'The Way I Feel Today' right?!
Surely that's better than 'Club Sandwich'?....each to their own etc I guess. On a related note TWIFT is 10 years old this year, scary.
Club Sandwich has a cool druggy Krauty sludge-rock vibe
neat little mood-setter, even if I'm Gonna Try is the only real standout (arguably 25 Years too)
Cheers for the heads up
will give this a listen when i get chance
Awesome, cheers!
By the way, this is the bit where I usually remind everyone about the best song ever:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMpV2DAXW-g
so many post-rock bands needed to give up after that song came out
do I tag this as a Chris Olly record, or a Six by Seven one?
the downloads come as (The Death of) Six By Seven but that sounds a bit stupid.
THIS IS IMPORTANT GUYS
categorization
The Death of Six.by Seven is Chris Olley solo. It has nothing to do with the band. The band imploded in 2008 and exists no more.

So did anyone get the new 7 song EP?
Really liking it, probably more than the album.
Follow is tremendous.
will check this ty
Death of Six By Seven
Playing The Maze in Nottingham on May 16th.
ooh
thanks for the headsup!
wasn't the best gig.
but
Why?
just wasn't
no atmosphere, the band kept going in and out of time without having a 'loose feel'. the two support acts were good but way too similar to how the death of six by seven sounded.
I enjoyed it
Travelled up from London. Was definitely worth the journey.
Winterhouse were excellent and I loved their cover of Alice In Chains' Nutshell.
DoSx7 were very good. Very Spacemen 3. Definitely go to see them again.
a
Hope and anchor gig, London 13 July
Is there a ticket link anywhere?
Oh, from their website:
Goodsoul Promotions don’t use a ticket agency so there are no extra costs to people wanting to come along. They can guarantee entry by emailing them at Goodsoul@live.co.uk and they will put you on a list for the door.
£7
The above is correct
My Brother (Mike) & I (Chris) have just started putting gigs on at the Hope And Anchor in Islington.
We don't do advance tix. We want to keep costs down, take away the hassle of having to resell if people's plans change. An e-mail, a Facebook reply to an event will put you on the list
We have a Special Guest Band playing an hour set before Death Of Six By Seven. We can't announce who, but they sold out The Borderline last time they played London towards the end of last year.
how the mighty fall :(
they deserve to at least be as big as Mystery Jets...
I'll listen to the album again before then
If it still sounds like a weak Spiritualized knockoff then I won't be attending the gig
OKOK I'll come, I'll come
in my 6x7 t-shirt and who knows maybe a skeleton mask
