New School of Seven Bells lp is brilliant
Promo turned up this morning. Played it twice. Absolutely loving it. It's pretty much what I wanted the last m83 lp to be when he said it would be epic-epic-epic (and instead delivered that slightly bloated thing that needed editing down). Posted two tracks up on our Facebook so you can have a taste of it, as the record ain't out 'til Feb 27th: http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=300903033289775&id=19343183144

i loved their debut and played it a lot
but felt the follow up was really pretty weak
I came here to say that ^
hmm
nah, i thought the follow up still was pretty good, not quite as good as the first, but still with substantial merit
i know what you mean
i think if the second record had been their first, i'd have liked it more but i adored the debut, so...
Hmm, okay
I just though Disconnect from Desire was pants.
Plus, if I had a twin (and we were in a band), and my twin left this band, pretty sure I'd leave too. Of course I don't know the situation and everything, but I'm pretty sure my logic would hold.
I was supposedly replying to another post sean...
man, that's almost six weeks away!
I don't believe you
Especially since you only had 2 listens
i'll report back next week
but it's really super. i was desk-dancing and everything!
Man, sean, now I am excited about this LP,
and I didn't even know that it was coming out!
Thanks, sean, I'll keep an eye on this one. :)
vaguely related...
you a fan of American Analog Set?
Really love the first 2 secret machines albums
Not so keen on The Cranberries nonsense that came after.
Also one of the best live bands I have ever seen.
Really?
You can't have seen many. (btw I saw them a couple of years ago and they were perfectly pleasant...but really?)
I've seen plenty ta.
I have begun to realise
that I am, in fact, the only human being alive that really likes the third record. I bet even the band hate it.
I like it too!
At least, I like the first two and last two tracks. Last track is probably one of their 2 or 3 best songs. Rest is a bit wobbly.
I WOULD ALSO SAY
that it is much, much better than Ten Silver Drops, which dies a dreadful death after the first 3 songs
Is that the self-titled one?
Yeah, I don't mind it either.
i am!
they're a little more like Sea & Cake in places
can't claim to know much of their stuff but similar-ish in places to Secret Machines
the road leads where it's lead
is a serious tune
Well, helloooooooooo ladies!
Great stuff.
i think, and i might be rong
but it seems that they're a boy-girl duo...or was it always thus and her sister joined them for live shows?
One of the twins left during a recent tour.
The bloke in the band recently hinted it pissed him off, and he didn't seem to excuse her either...
Lafaye really grows on you (and whatever you're playing it through makes a huge difference)
The Night is also up here http://soundcloud.com/vagrantrecords/sets/school-of-seven-bells-2/
Yup, both of these are a real step up.
Really looking forward to the record now! :-)
this track is WONDERFUL
Lafaye remixed by Scissor Sisters

Excitement!
album really is good
jimmy fallong performance here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di6NAiWVCpU
they're playing the Garage on the 8th march, should be good
don't know who
jimmy fallong is though
I'm going to the Garage show
Should be good
stream it now

halfway through, you ight be right about this...
can't stand that album art though. Yeuch
not quite convinced yet
listened to it about 3 times now, and I don't tend to notice it until the last two tracks, which are very strong. The rest are all fine, but nothing stands out until those last two tracks.
how have you listened to it?
I recommend V.LOUD and/or on headphones.
earphones
but like most of my listening nowadays, it was during my commute / first thing at work, when I'm reading the forums, which means that songs need to have something special to stand out, otherwise they pass unnoticed.
Really, really enjoying it.
When You Sing might be the best 'Soon' ripoff i've ever heard.
Haha
listened to the album for the first time last night and thought exactly the same thing!
So7B might become a candidate for that
'Bands who got better after losing a member' thread
did i mentioned i like it?
here is my 'review' http://drownedinsound.com/releases/16748/reviews/4144516
I get all the things you mention in your opening para
except for this one: "I totally lose my shit, playing air drums with my eyes shut, wriggling in my chair and shaking all that dust on my books". Which kinda explains what I was getting at, up ^there.
Last two tracks are crackers, and Low Times broke through my consciousness on the last listen. I fully expect that after half a dozen or so listens I'll be loving it from start to finish, but I reckon the song order is working against it. White Wind should come much earlier... second song, probably, followed immediately by Low Times. Then the two down beat tracks followed by Lafaye and the others before finishing, as it does now, with When You Sing (which is fantastic closer).
It sometimes alarms me...
...how much robluvsnic's opinions on music mirror my own.
you just happen to have excellent taste in music
particularly for a sexagenarian.
True, my free bus pass...
...frees up spending money for the new hit releases of popular beat combos.
yeah, i know what you mean
i slung it on shuffle the other day (to see if there was a duff track, and I'm not sure there is!) and it didn't hurt the experience.
Why has the iTunes download of the album got one extra track?
'Unnature' is track 10 where as the streams include only 9 tracks and the Amazon download has that number of tracks too.
It' not listed as an 'iTunes bonus track' either which is the bit I find strange.
Just curious.
