Electronic Albums - potential 2012 highlights?
So last year was great for my tastes, albums from the likes of Oneohthrix Point Never, Hyetal, Nocow, Nicolas Jaar, Walls, Samiyam and Falty DL and Fabric mixes from Ramadanman and FourTet were particular highlights.
What do you think will be the highlights from world of electronica (and other similar sub genres!?)

Flying Lotus
Flying Lotus, if he gets his new record out
Floating Points is doing a full length too, isn't he? That'll be great.
Always hard to tell with electronic stuff though, like hip-hop you get a lot of unanticipated breakthrough acts each year.
Looking forward to the Dro Carey record that comes out in a week or so as well
The EP on Ramp?
It's out now and it's awsome. I played 3 tracks from it on the radio the otehr night just cos its so good haha. My copy came last year but I grabbed it from the ramp shop, I think it's in other shops right now.
Yeah that's the one
I don't have a vinyl player over here so I only pay attention to CD/mp3 release dates... Plus vinyl on the continent is €€€
I'm pretty sure Flying Lotus
said on twitter a while ago that he'd have a new one out between march and may? So yeah . there's that which is bound to be good. A floating Points album is very exciting as well.
Also, Actress and Factory Floor.
Lindstrom
is that not already out?
something something rebels?
Flying Lotus
should be a good one. New Forest Swords and Gold Panda I guess should be out this yr too. Also Pariah's album is due finally.
new Scuba out next month
massively looking forward to that :D
These are already really good...
Yöt – Bitch Bender [Raha & Tunteet]
Non Person – Things With Consequences, Part 1 [1-0-8]
There will be loads on the way. Out of anounced ones I'm excited for Scratcha DVA, Cooly G, Hype Williams all on Hyperdub oh and the new Burial EP of course. Kinda interested in Ital on Planet Mu dispite not being into that much of the 100% Silk stuff. Scuba and Sigha have albums on the way on Hotflush maybe George FitzGerald. I think I heard Pariah is doing an album. Actress has one called RIP for Honest Jon's which I'm really really looking forward to. Jam City will prob be a big one on Night Slugs. Space DImention Controller. Maya Jane Coles. Addison Groove & Shed on 50 Weapons. Can't think what else has been annouced.
I wouldn't be too suprised to see something from Flying Lotus, Mount Kimbie, Ekoplekz, Dro Carey, LHF, Main Attrakionz, DJ Rashad & DJ Spinn, Darkstar. I'm mostly guessing/hopping with that lot though.
We'll get tons of suprises, always do.
Actress?
Excellent. Really up for that. Hyperdub looks to have a strong release schedule as well. Think I saw something about Ekoplekz doing a new one soon somewhere, can't remember where it was though...
Yep
http://www.honestjons.com/label.php?pid=39612&LabelID=14815
I sware he said he had two on the way last year but they didn't seem to happen, so maybe we'll see at least one of them sometime soon. One was called Ghettoville on Werk and pretty sure the other will be RIP on Honest Jon's.
http://www.factmag.com/2011/07/07/actress-and-lukid-finish-new-albums-for-werk/
Oh yeah Lukid looks to be on with another album too, he's ace.
I just persume Ekoplekz has a million albums on the way like he did last year lol.
Those two 12"s he released were really good.
The problem with electronic music is it's so hard and expensive to keep up with it all...
Pretty sure there's a new Shed record on the way
Which should be great. Very much looking forward to Scratcha DVA's record and the Pariah one that's meant to be on it's way. Also if the warm up EP/mini-album SDC put out is anything to go by then his next album should be pretty damn special. Maybe another record from Guido? I'd love another record from Lorn as well, still the most underrated producer on the Brainfeeder roster. Wouldn't mind another FlyLo one if it's more restrained than Cosmogramma but that's highly unlikely haha.
Also I just ordered the new Pinch FabricLive CD, sounds like it could be incredible.
Teebs is definitely releasing a new record this year, while we're on a Brainfeeder trip
Another underrated talent.
Lapalux
On Brainfeeder too, he's very good indeed. Prob just an EP mind. I think most the people on Brainfeeder are underrated, the label is pretty lowkey bar FlyLo and he hardly ever releases on the label himself. I mean they hardly got the word out that Martyn had an album on their last year and he's bigger than most on the label.
That Martyn record is a proper sleeper
So good. They're a really great little label, loved pretty much everything they put out.
Yot
I checked out the teaser for Bitch Bender last night which sounds great. Pariah should be great, I didn;t know Actress had a new one due.
Should be interesting to see where Maya Jane Coles goes next. I think it'll be a big year for Hyperdub
looking forward to the following (off the top of my head)
CFCF, Jam City, Scuba, Flying Lotus, Tanlines, Burial's EP, Guido, Lone
VCMG
After 30 years working on their respective ongoing music projects, Vince Clarke (Erasure / Yazoo / Depeche Mode) and Martin L. Gore (Depeche Mode) come together for the first time since 1981 as VCMG to release a brand new album preceded by a series of EPs.
Their first new work surfaced late last year in the form of EP1 / Spock, a five-tracker complete with remixes from Regis and DVS1. Ssss features the title tracks from that release and the forthcoming EP2 / Single Blip, plus eight previously unreleased productions. It was mastered by Stefen Betke, AKA Pole, and is due out in March on Mute Records.
That VCMG release from last year was really good.
Factory Floor, OBVS
Quite looking forward to the John Talabot album
http://soundcloud.com/john-talabot/so-will-be-now-feat-pional
Jimi has mentioned loads i'm looking forward to. The Hype Williams one will be good I reckon, think there's a couple of cuts which could feature on it from the Dean Blunt CDR (http://dialplus4915788914297.bigcartel.com/product/dean-blunt-the-narcissist) and they sound brilliant, really surprisingly evocative (Thunderstorms and hellfire preachers). Also Actress (x2?), SDC, Addison Groove, that supposed Mala Cuban album.
Demdike Stare's Elemental series thing has two more releases coming which i'm looking forward to, stunningly presented.
Professor Genius - Hassan, L.I.E.S haven't really put a foot wrong yet.
Airhead album that was supposed to be out summer last year, sort of get the feeling he might have moved from Ramp/BRAiNMATH to R&S though.
Have to say i'm really looking forward to tonnes of 12's and other smaller outputs too though. Blackest Ever Black are killing it right now, looking forward to Vatican Shadow stepping up for them. Then there's a Haxan Cloak and another Ayshay release on TriAngle. The upcoming Madteo in Bankhead/Joy Orbs new label looks good. Also the Mix Mup & Kassem Mosse 12' and Dro Carey - Leary Blips EP on his Trilogy Tapes.
Can't get enough of Eduardo De La Calle's stuff, pumping out 12' after 12' on Analog Solutions, imagine that'll continue. Want to see more from Albert Van Abbe too, the No Comment series seem to have an almost drexciyan/dopplereffekt kind of agenda and frighteningly taut and robust, some of the best Bsides ever. Would love to hear more from John Roberts, Moomin or any Aim/Dial/Laid artists really. Oh and the continuing brilliant of L.I.E.S of course, Terekke needs to put more out. Rivet seems to be doing interesting techno too, uncompromising.
As much a wishlist as much an actual list there, and there's no doubt loads of stuff i'm forgetting. Haven't really dipped into the experimental stuff much at all.
Didn't realise that Floating Points was supposed to be putting out an LP
Hyped for that, can't stop listening to Shadows EP. the 5/5 RA gave it is pretty much bang on
Not sure about Floating Points doing an LP
I think he was keeping off doing big projects until he finished his PhD, I'm not sure how far on he is with that. Wouldn't be suprised to see a load more 12"s/EPs tho.
Ah reet
New he'd always considered his music a 'hobby'
I mean there was talk of a floating points ensemble album
but that was back in 2010 sometime. I'd loave to hear an album but who knows. I don't think I've heard word of one.
That's what I was talking about.
Thought it was supposed to come out end of last year.... but assumed it had been pushed back.
Knew*
I should really make a house/techno 2012 thread or something
The Crow Castle Cuts series seems to be going places, love the rooting in mythology and place both surrounding the release and in the music itself (barring the odd disco cut). 2nd release is lovely.
http://crowcastlecuts.tumblr.com/
New Moritz Von Oswald Trio too
http://www.honestjons.com/label.php?pid=39649&LabelID=14815
gesaffelstein
other than that i've no idea.
Well, I liked this thing that someone jagged here
Sort of kraut-drone collage stuff,

Doc Daneeka and Benjamin Damage - They!Live

this seems like a good place to ask
i follow Keith Fullerton Whitman on thisismyjam where he posts crazy whacked out covers of your favourite synthpop hits
http://thisismyjam.com/keithfwhitman/
basically i really enjoy listening to them all. BUT i have never listened to any of his records before.
which one is best?
Try Lisbon (my favourite, unbelievably beautiful)
Disingenuity/Disingenuousness (really whacked out modular synth stuff)
Generator (again, modular synth explorations)
Multiples
Playthroughs
Also, if you can track it down, his Variations For Oud and Synthesiser is incredible.
Also, thanks for the link - was completely unaware of this!
Screw the more experimental electronic stuff...
How about electronic pop music?
I'm really looking forward to Chairlift's 'Something' LP released later this month.
Every track I've heard off this so far has been some kind of brilliance.
new hot chip album.
sometime in may.
Chromatics album on Italians Do It Better?
Think there's a new Nite Jewel soon too. Oh and I guess the new xx one
/\/\/\/\ Agreed!
Chromatics' 'Kill for Love' EP year should be excellent.
Glass Candy are recording their next LP 'Body Work' too for release later this year too. :o)
'Kill For Love' LP, not EP.
God, I can't type anymore.
I'm liking the Ital thing on Planet Mu so far
http://planet.mu/discography/ZIQ312 (you can preview it there)
Seems like he's mixing in a bit of the stuff he did as Sex Worker into his new stuff. Bit weirder and more unsettling.
The Bug
seems to be pretty active at the moment, he's been workign with Grouper & Justin Broadrick again: http://www.factmag.com/2012/01/11/the-bug-working-with-grouper-on-new-album/ Hopefuly we'll get another album before the year is out.
Errors
Can confirm their new album is bloody good. As is the Blondes record.
