Are they defensible in some way as a great pop band (who dress a bit 'metal' but really aren't?) Discuss.
other than that they were a bit gash.
they're not a 'great pop band'.
pet shop boys are a great pop band
abba are a great pop band
bananarama are a great pop band
new order are a great pop band
lost prophets were a band who took the refused template, then watered it down so teenage girls who were a 'bit goth' would buy their boyband alt-punk records.
They are a completely fine pop-rock band, in the vein of Feeder etc and would rather listen to them than, say, bring me the horizon. Utterly harmless in the grand scheme of things.
Though for my indie bedwetting top trump points I will say that I wish Hundred Reasons had pushed themselves to achieve the same levels of success, they were level pegging early into their careers but, as you mentioned, Lostprophets retooled themselves as a 'pop' band whilst the former learnt the hard way that integrity and poverty are more interlinked than they realised.
hundred reasons were on the cusp, golden years of my youth
still holds up.
All their early eps are great and each album has some good stuff, especially ideas above our station
is phenomenal, listened to it in the gym for the first time in years the other day
love the jazzy chorused chords inbetween all the drop d riffs, some nice bass work too for the genre
I view them as a really good pop-rock band who took the Refused and Faith No More template and watered it down to make their sound more commercially accessible.
