and I think he's something new. I'm surprised he won, though, and whether he can keep his sound when the cash comes calling remains to be seen.

That's probably how those BBC poll people think. It "means" he's for real and got soul...if he was white, he wouldn't have topped the poll. He's quite dull...
180 people will never agree on anything like that. it's just because he was on Jools the week most people did their voting. and a lot of the people who vote don't really listen to new music, so just pick something they're aware of/have been made aware of by PRs and/or pluggers.
where people are incredibly fascinated by someone who's young sounding like a middle aged soul singer.
is wonderful. Just wonderful. Gentle, evocative and arranged and sung with real class.
The other stuff I've heard is nowhere near as good, but he deserves a look for sure...
especially Home Again. He sounds like David Gray. But I think he'll be enormously popular, especially on Radio 2, and that's the point of those Sound of... polls, isn't it?
