...and have found Dubnobasswithmyheadman and Violator to be the best driving soundtracks. Unsurprisingly the Drive OST is pretty good too.
Is an album I always love playing when driving at night
Don't think I've ever listened to it while driving however - to be remedied.
Also, you can't beat a singalong to Rage Against The Machine's Eponymous (and always audible at car motorway volumes)
Quite like a bit of Tim Hecker (Harmony In Ultraviolet) thought it's not the best for being focused. Ahem.
...and Swervedriver featured quite heavily. Feel that they are more suited to US driving than UK driving tho - maybe the flat open spaces. Sonic Temple by The Cult got quite an airing on that trip too, and that is an album that doesn't sound good in ANY other circumstances.
I tend to go for fast, rocky singalong stuff: Pearl Jam's Vs, 100 Broken Windows, If You Want Blood You've Got It
Driving at night, especially if its a long drive, I'm a sucker for hypnotic, motorik shit: the aforementioned Dubnobasswithmyheadman, Neu, more recent Mogwai.
On those rare summer days when you drive with the windows down and everythings ok with the world then its either hip-hop or reggae, Souls of Mischief's '93 til Infinity and Toots & the Maytals Funky Kingston are particular faves.
Driving to Girls and Boys in America on my way to a friends i hadn't seen in ages the day after i quit my crappy job in the blazing sunshine is probably in my top 5 all time happiest moments.
