Guardian readers vote Matt Cardle as album and single of year
I think that's what you call a merking.

Aereogramme
LOL
Enjoying the comments, half made by people who don't seem to realise the pranking that's gone on even though the article's introduction is mostly saying `ah yeah good one`.
Good album tbf...
I genuinely didn't know who he was until I read this thread!
This makes me either worth ten billion indie points, or really fucking old.
First example of such "merking" as you call it that I remember ...
was in 1988 or so when Radio One's reverent "Greatest Songs Of All Time" ended up with five songs by Bros in the Top Ten or something. "I Owe You Nothing" was Number One. Good effort by the tweenies I thought, as this was pre-internet.
Don't forget Belle and Sebastian winning a Best Newcomer Brit Award
in 1998. Beat Steps and all.
I was 10, watching the Brits with so much hate for Steps, and I thought that was the most hilarious thing ever.
I will ALWAYS remember is it wicked not to care's video (some guys fighting with wooden swords or something?) being played as they won it, and wondering who they were.
