Bands that don't put their album on streaming sites at launch

justanothersheeldz [Edit] [Delete] 7 replies 16:22, 9 December '11

Missing out on something, aren't they? I mean... people are more likely to steal something when it's fresh, so by not putting it online for streaming a lot will just take it illegally.

I am unsure about the future of the music industry, but not putting an album somewhere that people can hear it seems utterly utterly backwards.

Spotify vs. buying music vs. stealing music GO!

  • Maybe they see spotify and illegal downloading as the same in terms of how much money they get so not having it on spotify makes it harder to hear for free so maybe more will buy

    • Also once there are call to action buttons for buying tracks on spotify...

Don't see those when you've already downloaded it do you?

  • The disinction should be made between Spotify and (most) website hosted streams

As most of the latter are removed a short while after the actual release date, forcing listeners to buy or forget all about it. Almost like administering free (addictive) medication then making people pay abruptly...

  • i like streaming /stealing music to find music that i love and will therefore buy

But yes, if it isnt streaming, it is however(rightly or wrongly)ridiculously easily available to steal. And the likelihood is albums that individuals feel are good but not great will remain stolen and not bought.

the idea of spotify is great but when i make an end of year mix, only about 50-65% of my favourite hundred albums are on there, which is pretty pants and for that reason i don't really use it.

  • I honestly don't think streaming sites have that much of an effect on who's going to buy an album or not

If your main method of obtaining music is downloading, it isn't going to change your mind. You're going to listen to the stream once and then go off and download it anyway.

People want a "copy" for themselves and their music player, don't they? Be it illegally obtained or not. I know you can get Spotify on the go but not everyone has an unlimited data plan so it's not always a viable option.

    • most DiSers want a "copy" sure

but most casual fans I've spoken to love Spotify

    • point made

but i was thinking of it as a substitute for stealing it.
