good. Might just have to get my hands on these remasters, not too much on amazon. Anyone listened to one yet?
and I'll definitely be getting hold of 2nd Annual Report & DOA
20 Jazz Funk Greats I could never get to love, it's too clinical and I like my TG down & dirty.
Heathen Earth, kinda boring with flashes of brilliance. Maybe a Chris Carter remix will make me reconsider.
I like some of it. Needs more listens
I will try again. I am sure it was groundbreaking at the time, but I just find it a bit shit.
they arnt remasters, just rereleases.. theyve been releasing the vinyl each week from mid november, the vinyls are limited to 2000, but the CDs come with an extra disk of live versions etc. Ive got 4 of the vinyl. All really good, come with a nice 4 page vinyl sized booklet with a bit of text, few reviews from the time of initial release and a few photos etc. Nice little package. I prefer their earlier rough n dirty stuff but all of its good.
all done from the original 'baked' tapes (whatever the hell that means). I just read the Pitchfork review, which explains how much richer they sound, and am now thinking maybe I do have to buy there yet again.
By the way, the Pitchfork reviews are by Drew Daniel from Matmos. He says (slightly obliquely) that 'a whole book' could be written about 20 Jazz Funk Greats. Which, of course, he has actually done. So no great surprise he gives the LP a 10.
Personally, it's my favourite too. An amazing record.
I just thought the improved sound was cos it was a new record.
(as is the greatest hits record)
I'm surprised, because that 'I'm the King of Leon-a Lewis' line was pretty much untrumpable in music history, I thought.
True though innit.
