This has just improved my Sunday night. Danke.
Marked is an absolutely incredible track.
Drunk Girls just now
For me, it;s all about Home from that album, namely for the woodblock
It's an album that starts and ends well but less keen on the middle, I am picking individual songs here really.
Home is lovely though, among their best
has to be skipped every time. There's some definite Bowie-isms on that record as well, I was looking at the cover today and thinking that maybe he was doing a bit of a tribute/pastiche of Station to Station musically in places (hello All I Want), and then I thought that maybe the cover is trying to signal that in a way, that it's some kind of homage. OR maybe he's just really vain and I give him to much credit. Idaho.
is funny and all, but it's not really...that interesting.
Some of the others are nice, but it doesn't work as a record like Sound of Silver did. However love other songs on it a load, it is him pillaging a lot on songs, but consciously enough (all i want is just heroes, drunk girls white light) but it's almost kinda their point, master imitators, in the best sense.
SO SHUT UP.
Zomby, Fucked Up, PJ Harvey etc
picked up that ZOMBY record. its pretty great. and suitably spooky for this time of year.
Give It Up at the moment.
Really like the first half but second half always loses me somewhat
I haven't got much on Thrill Jockey, I think just Choral by Mountains, but that's a lovely record and I liked this track too.
I think you might like this if you haven't heard it - one of my friends sent the link a couple of weeks ago as well http://open.spotify.com/album/40oDEEM2N7rW7tXFLqf6SS and described it as music to drive at 15mph to, so was listening to this a bit earlier this evening. It's more on the Music for Airports side of ambient though.
Tallis: Spem in Alium
...feeling very mellow now, christmas tree lights a-twinkling...
seems pretty decent.
he's a bona fide, top drawer whistler. Not sure which album you're listening to but try this if you've not listened to much of his stuff before:
Also the lyrics are amazing 'when I was just a little boy, I threw away all of my action toys, because I became addicted to, operatiiiiiiiiiiiiiioooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnn!'
ryan gosling's band, kind of like a spooky arcade fire, almost ruined by a childrens choir but not quite http://open.spotify.com/track/4upk9FN0dqW8dl7ka8UcMd
Shane McGowan's brilliant track courtesy of the recent and most excellent 'from Gainsbourg to Lulu' tribute record.
never was much cop at French.
Yes, yes I do.
Listening to a lot of Grouper recently
the A Side is soooo good.
it's on Spotify also.
Basically it is punk!
Goats Head Soup and Let It Bleed to be specific. They were a different proposition with him in the band and I dont think Ronnie Wood was as good.
Blood Visions by Jay Reatard!
it gets better with every listen
Has potential to eventually do my head in, just like Fuck You, but at the moment I love it anyway (BOOM!)
live stream on the Guardian
it's a really nice little album, probably the best 2011 debut I've heard. Kind of reminds me of the Perfume Genius album from last year, except reaching skywards instead of inwards.
into July is really nice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEDPdybOeU4 the record is sort of a bit like Hospice era Antlers recorded on four track and with less emo lyrics.
but disagree with the Hospice comparison totally. Do they really sound similar to you?
and now some Don Cab.
Gravitas is so good.
reissue. I don't know if it sounds better, only because it has always sounded fucking great.
I know everyone says stuff like this all the time but LISTEN TO THIS IT'S THE BEST THING EVER
From a newly rereleased album. 70s afrobeat thing.
Just got back from the gig at Dingwalls, dancing around the room to this
Only just got around to this album, really atmospheric late-night stuff.
On a similar Sunday-night-ambient tip, I'm listening to Rachel Grimes' Book Of Leaves. Really lovely album.
keep you close. Love it.
