Wow, didn't even know this was being released until this morning.
Suppose I better give it a listen then.
I'm pretty miffed that the Silent Running shows never made their way to London but the band are pretty vocal about hating the place so I shouldn't be too surprised I guess.
I've not seen the film, I've got it ready to watch though. Ideally at some point someone clever out there will re-score the film with this recorded version and I'll get to behold it as was intended originally.
It sounds pretty bloody fantastic on first listen, some really nice hairs standing on their end moments in there.
Got the download link through though so all is not lost, this will be soundtracking my commute tomorrow for sure
I totally forgot to order this, am I right in thinking this is digital download and vinyl only and no CD version?
I really can't wait till the Brighton show in a couple of weeks.
On accounts of it all being fully fan-funded and self-released.
Are you going to the Polinkski show on Friday? If so I may well see you there.
...Paul Wolinski of 65days is playing the Brixton Windmill (!) on Friday, as Polinski (great debut album) and I'm DJing.
I'll be fucken drunken.
Here is words on the Polinski album:
Silent Running is good so far. Cannot WAIT to receive my noisebox
sold out by the time ID got to the site :/ got the vinyl/t-shirt bundle though. will probably be at the post office needing to be picked up.
Lucky bastard, I was one of the unfortunates who thought they'd got one second time round but actually hadn't thanks to the website cocking up :(
and felt quiet disgruntlement (soon replaced with measured understanding) when they put more up ;)
Still unsure whether to try to make use of it or lock it in a display case to keep it mint!
I got back and was really pissed off that I missed it so the second sale was much appreciated for me
I also like that they posted up the schematic!
My box just arrived. It's chuffing beautiful.
how the fuck 65dos are able to make SO MUCH MUSIC. I mean I love it, but it sort of blows my mind a bit.
The Scattered Disk is really really good. The rest of it isn't the same sort of quality as their usual album material but still worthwhile and stuff.
but in the same way DOSI was stunning. Controlled beautiful crescendos. Love it.
...and yeah it's good. I'm not sure it's as good as I thought it would be after the promise of 'Burial Scene' but I think I need to give it more of listens.
It's good, most reminiscent of the Destruction-era stuff but actually sounds huge this time round.
or should I try something else?
Also, is the Polinski album good?
The best place to start is The Fall of Math and work your way through from their chronologically to see how they've evolved and adjusted their sound.
The Polinski album is good yea, it's suffered a bit as my expectations for it were really high and it's not quite matched them and it came out at the same time as the new Johnny Foreigner and Los Campesinos! meaning I've not given it enough attention yet.
RE starting with 65: depends on what floats your boat generally.
If you're more into traditional post-rock stuff, I'd suggest their 3rd album The Destruction Of Small Ideals. If you're more into the electronic/dance elements I'd give the Distant & Mechanised EP a listen first then move onto We Were Exploding Anyway.
First 2 albums are a healthy mix of the two but for me WWEA is the most immediate of the 4. 3rd can be hard work unless you have decent headphones/soundsystem though
"Drove Through Ghosts to Get Here"
in my mind sums them up completely (and I don't mean that in any way negatively). It's got all the elements* there in one song. If you don't like that you won't like them. It's one of the greatest tracks of all time.
*er apart from all the recent electronic/dance stuff
I didn't know about this much. I'd seen the Facebook updates, but paid no attention as I really don't like the Electronica/dance stuff from We were exploding. Now I've listened to it, I like it. I'm gonna try and watch the film with that. Will be interesting as I've never seen the film.
