The War On Drugs
I think The Fly will give it to The Antlers
:P
Hasn't Q
given the Best Album award to Bon Iver? How can the number 1 on their list be anything else? Maybe I don't understand Q and all its little ways
i wasn't aware their list had been announced. scrap that if that is the case then.
The Q Awards is different
to their end of year lists. Last year they gave High Violet the Q Award for album of the year and then it came about 7th in their end of year list. No, I have no idea either.
hmm
Thanks. Clear as mud :) There's a chance they will give it to Florence, in that case
I think Line Of Best Fit will be
The War On Drugs.
Most of the Tabloids: Florence & the Machine (with Adele at #2)
Most of the broadsheets: Feist or Laura Marling
Most of the Sunday papers: Adele
One of the Sunday broadsheets: Kasabian
A style magazine: BATTLES
Fact: Rustie
Resident Advisor: Villalobos & Loedebour
That's really really tricky
Maybe Glass Swords
Did you see their review of Lulu in this month's edition?
They loved it, they went crazy for it. I'm starting to doubt the quality of their reviews.
Their features, news, columns. All are impeccable. But they gave Bill Callahan a bad review earlier this year and they give Lou & Met a good review. I don't really appreciate this sort of shenanigans.
ha volcanic tongue too.

."Lulu is more Lou Reed than Lou Reed and that surely means that this is the best thing ever done by anybody".
cant think of an obvious one. could be something that hasn't come out yet. i hope it's a jazz record. maybe matana roberts. maybe the new necks record (altho i haven't heard it yet). maybe the new opn. maybe the james ferraro. maybe the julia holter. yes, possibly some 'bass music' hmm.
I'd really like it if they picked Julia Holter
Me too
i'm way way too excited for my reprint that I just ordered to arrive.
Would also be quite pleased if they chose the upcoming Heatsick LP that they drooled all over a month or two back just based on how much i love the Dream Tennis 12' also reviewed in the same piece.
right, my Pitchfork top 25 guess (for posterity)
1/ Bon Iver
2/ Girls
3/ M83
4/ The Weeknd (all 3 combined, like James Blake last year)
5/ Fleet Foxes
6/ Shabazz Palaces
7/ James Blake
8/ tUnE-yArDs
9/ St. Vincent
10/ Real Estate
11/ Destroyer
12/ PJ Harvey
13/ Fucked Up
14/ Drake*
15/ Atlas Sound
16/ Kurt Vile
17/ Smith Westerns
18/ Gang Gang Dance
19/ Toro Y Moi
20/ Danny Brown
21/ Panda Bear
22/ The Field
23/ Cut Copy
24/ Tom Waits
25/ Big K.R.I.T
*this is the wildcard because it's yet to be reviewed and only leaked yesterday. If this gets an average score then bump everything up by one and throw Washed Out in at the bottom. also: there's a small chance Oneohtrix Point Never and/or Childish Gambino could get in the top 25 but I doubt it. we'll have to see
for tracks:
Video Games, Yonkers, It's Real, California, Midnight City, Bizness, Honey Bunny, Perth, Grown Ocean all strong top 10 contenders. also maybe Super Bass for the pop lulz
do you think Panda Bear will do that well?
agreed on the rest - although Pitchfork do try to not be predictable.
yeah, it got 8.5 and he's still a p4k fave
wouldn't think it would land top 20 but probably #30-21
I hope Mojo don't give it to Bon Iver
Last year it was John Grant. They should give it to a richly deserving underdog again. Sadly I don't know who that will be.
I bet the collaborative album from Pinch and Shackleton for FACT :p
but, yep, Rustie also has a very good chances. Or Kuedo.
But the big surprises can happen: Machinedrum, Zomby, LV, Prurient, Clams Casino or Perc (my favorite one).
would be great to see Clams Casino somewhere
its amazing
How are Antlers not mentioned (for anyone other than the Fly) yet?
Clearly must be a strong (if not strongest) contender for DiS, and I haven't followed the evolution of Pitchfork's view on it, but surely it will make their top 25...
SPOILER: it is my album of the year, although of course I am not a music publication.
^DiS
Can't see DiS being anything other than Antlers or St Vincent personally
Came to post this..
Be very surprised if it wasn't one of those too, probably St Vincent.
i dunno
there are 2-3 others that have a good chance i reckon.
Nice try
but I don't believe you
pitchfork will give it to Bon Iver
Or M83. Surely.
I would love you (DiS) to give it to someone a bit surprising like Mogwai, for example..
There's not enough love for Mogwai
It's an amazing album. I think everyone assumes it will be more of the same, because that's what people expect to expect, but it isn't. Not sure what's going on with EP, mind.
i've not heard that EP
but i really think there's an argument for the album to be the best think they have done to date..
XLR8R, may be a surprise: M83
but probably not: The Field, Rustie, Zomby.
... if they forget the good review they did for FaltyDL record at the beginning of the year
Sonic Router, humm... Kuedo or Sully! :)
RA: Machinedrum, Modeselektor, BNJMN - I loved to see Dominik Eulberg LP there but it seems almost impossible I guess.
lol
we'll see which way the editor goes I usualy just send him a list along with a load of the other contributors and he chooses cos no one really likes doing it/can be arsed to argue, we only really do a list cos people kept asking for it every year. So I wouldn't be suprsied if it was some Skweee/hip-hop/Rustie/Something else/etc. But yeah Kuedo and Sully are up there for me for sure.
LWE: impossible to predict
Roman Flugel?, Morphosis?, Lucy??
idk
they have strong possibilities
but I think is something else more connected with microhouse or deep house. Tin Man, BNJMN, DJ Qu.
I think Uncut might just give it to Josh T. Pearson
They sure like putting the old-timers on the cover, but their album of the year spot usually goes to a more contemporary act.
i actually wrote that first time around and deleted it for a safer pick. could be good shout. just not quite sure if that record is a little too personal to push to the very fore as the publication-defining record of the year.
Will Odd.Future. after all that hype
top a single list? or the BBC Sound of 2011 Jessie J? I wonder if Clare McGuire will get a look in anywhere?
Hi!
The BBC Music Writers album of the year - something we have not done before - is to be based on an entirely transparent voting system. Workings shall be shown. That being the case, I can't guess as yet. Several votes have been cast at this point; and certainly SBTRKT has come up a few times. But there are more popular albums so far - including some that I didn't see coming. Will be an interesting list, hopefully.
it's just my guess, innit
can't wait to see how that list turns out!
it would be a joke if Metronomy got AOTY
I imagine Nicolas Jaar will get some recognition from FACT or XLR8R or RA
although RA did give a 5 to Machinedrum
