A very simple three sentence explanation which sort of encapsulates what it's about really.

But here goes:
It's a British urban music built on very deep, dub influenced basslines, with percussion and other accents in the top end and very little mid-range sound. It's generally spacey and atmospheric and often quite dark sounding. Mostly it's either instrumental or has vocals that are fragmentary.

but I wouldn't call any of that Dubstep.
Anything that doesn't have a hint of Mala in it isn't dubstep.
2-step garage mixed with dub reggae.
A dead genre that was characterised by 140bpm tempo, half time beats and lots of bass. For some reason is still used to describe techno, juke, house, etc that is made by people who used to make dubstep.
dubstep's commercial end is the sound of an industrial drill falling down some steps while some earless cunts slamdance.
to force more people to suffer the horrors of that Skrillex/Korn collaboration.
i actually listen to the tracks they're complaining about and they seem way more interesting/weird/intense than the incredibly boring 'classics' of the genre but still pretty bad.
rather than music made in fields and trees.
Even Wikipedia recognises the term 'urban contemporary':.
