Your first impressions of Mylo Xyloto
Well most people have expectations when listening to Coldplay; mine are usually high, but the build up to this did feel a bit X&Y-y. But on first listen I found myself smilingly dumbly a lot, its Coldplay's kitchen sink record. If, after a few more listens, musical themes become apparent and the album sequencing works, then it could be a success :).

Mylo
cloldplay
I really enjoyed it
Up until the Rhianna song, and then continued to enjoy it. I think i'll just end up deleting it like it never existed.
Charlie Brown is still a killer.
Snoopy is still a fraudster
Linus is still a thief
Woodstock is still a hooligan
Peppermint Patty is still an idolator
coldplay: one of those bands where schmindies say "their earlier stuff was great"
and it's not
Bang on, son
They came out with the limpest of limp indie whilst spouting complete self-aggrandising guff like "We all knew everyone would say we sounded like Jeff Buckley and Radiohead but we don't mind..." - as if you ever did, chaps...
Well most people have expectations when listening to Coldplay
surely do
I love Paradise so much
It's an uplifting triumph of a
kitchen sink of a good time.
It dips occasionally and I don't think the song with Rihanna is as good as that collab could have been, but Charlie Brown and to a larger extent Major Minus and Paradise are next level brilliant.
paradise
is kind of awuful? no? only heard the rihanna song cos it's being streamed on itunes just now and I hate it.
was most excited for this record on the back of mx, hurts like heaven, charlie brown and every teardrop. Now i am a little anxious.
Four out of six don't sound that bad.
My first impression is...
...hmm not gonna listen to that.
Paradise = Coldplay taking electronic shoegaze to the mainstream.
Overall impression of Mylo Xyloto: good record. Nothing extraordinary.
Is the album being streamed anywhere?
If so, can somebody post a link?
Thanks.
They are streaming different tracks on iTunes apparently.
Or you could just do it the normal way illegally.
Don't Let It Break Your Heart
Just heard the song Don't Let It Break Your Heart (terrible title I know) on their itunes page. Have to say it's a pretty epic pop song. Charlie Brown and Hurts Like Heaven are two other epic songs. Amongst some of the best thing they've ever done. They aren't trying too hard to impress on this record like their last couple of records and with it comes some pretty impressive stuff.
42 was their best ever track i thought
anything on it as good as that?
Nah
Actually slightly disappointed it's not as over-the-top pop
as the singles made it sound like. I thought Teardrop and Paradise sounded great and was expecting the whole album to have such a bombastic pop angle to it, which isn't really the case. Still a nice album though, liking it more with each listen etc.
That said, one of my musical pet peeves are clear intros that more or less are a part of a song but instead they've for some reason given a separate 30-second spot of their own in the tracklist. This happens three times on this time. Just make it a part of the song guys, it's ok if a song gets near five minutes.
