How many of those venues will be downgraded? I predict 6.
I can't see Steps seeing this one all the way through.
If for nothing else that they have the gall to strecth it out for 4 episodes.
Steps were (confusingly) enormous at the time, and the only people with money to spend on these size gigs are exactly the sort of people who lap up nostalgia tours.
Clare was still enormous
Usually reunions work because your former fans are all in the 30s and 40s and earning enough money to splash out on a ticket to a megadome show.
Most former Steps fans will be about 18 nowadays.
So as well as 18 year olds you'll have a few mid twenties girls who will want to go and get drunk with their friends from school who they never see any more.
I don't have a fucking clue who used to listen to Steps.
probably end up at Trent SU
i hope for their sake they sell well, having flicked past their reunion show a few times on tele, it seems they all spend all the time crying, and if this doesn't work out i think we might be in for a very wet spring.
or if they complete the tour with less members than they started with
I seem to remember it didn't have the full 7 involved though
as Oceana in Brighton. So if that's what half of S Club can achieve can Steps really fill the o2...?
has one of them had a terrible accident, or did one of the juniors fill in?
perhaps a half glass empty, rounding-down situation.
Pretty sure no attempt was made to replace the 4 absentees, obviously the 3 that turned up/are having the hardest time financially had enough onstage charisma to make do.
The rest of the membership I am not aware of.
2ive supported (as in two of the former members of 5ive)
They were very big 10 years ago and a lot of the fans would be around 21/22 now. Although there's no real place for them in the market right now can't see them doing much more than this. But you've gotta laugh at the NME Reviews of them at the time! http://www.nme.com/reviews//3268 http://www.nme.com/reviews/artistKeyname/5736
Steps had/have a huge gay following and enough folk who'll be interested in the nostalgia of it all/propsect in hearing Lee sing live on stage.
Lee has a whine about not being allowed to sing much on the records
it was hilarious how little he was actually on the records - he gets quite upset about it. 'I CAN SING GODAMMIT!'
...with chainsaws, chairs with barbed wire wrapped round 'em, planks of wood with nails sticking out.... now I'd pay good money for that!
I do recall the East 17 regrouping having a similar trial-by-tv thing and the subsequent live shows dying on their arse. Don't these people, er, go and get jobs once it's all finished? I was reading a Henry Rollins book recently that made a quiet comparison between the relative poverty (of a full time musician) that Greg Ginn still lives in, compared with former Black Flag roadie Mugger who went on to earn a few million by starting a succesul software company. Point being, musicians generally are a deluded bunch.
Except there were only 3 of them. 3hree. It was somewhere like an Irish Bar in Bristol. Similar poster for East 17 (again, minus some people, probably the mental one who ran himself over). This time in a grothole in Brighton.
That reunion show is painful, the girls went on a "galz holiday" to Marbella and whined about each other getting more vocal solos. Meanwhile, H and the other bloke hung out in H's Welsh mansion. The other bloke looks, and has always looked, like he couldn't give two shits about anything.
In April 2011 it was announced Blair Dreelan had joined the band... On 28 September 2011 Dreelan left the group
they're fucked - Rob Halford of Judas Priest has a project called 2wo.
Maybe they could pull their resources and form 3hreest 17?
So, yeah, it'll probably sell out.
their O2 show is nearly sold out.
They were MASSIVE back in the day, and had an astonishingly dedicated live following.
The big brain am winning again!
