The Twang
Why does everyone at DIS hate The Twang? (I'm from the U.S.) Is it:
1. They sound too working class?
2. Are people rude/annoying at their gigs?
3. Their sound is too British and people here like horrible copycat
bands that sound American like Yuck?
It seems to me that bands like The Twang, The Courteeners, The Maccabees are hated by this whole site, why?

The Twang
if i had to take a guess
i would say it's because they're massively derivative and boring
It's 2011, son.
Jog on.
Assuming this isn't a joke,
The Twang and the Courteeners are end-of-level-awful.
Maccabees are nowhere near as bad, though still not that great.
The second 'T' is silent.
Nice little The Twang fact for you there...
Because if I wanted to listen to Oasis being shit, I'd listen to any of their late-career albums.
a better question would be
why does anyone like The Twang? It's asking why people hate having the flu or Big Brother.
Black Lips suck
Why are you responding to this when the only bands you like are American.
Again, most of the people on this site only like bands that sound "American" if they sound too British they are "derivative".
Nah.
You're right about Black Lips being shit though.
Nah.
Nicely observed
I forgot I even had any ratings. But you're right, I've literally never heard any music that isn't Elliott Smith or the Black Lips, so how I managed to respond to this question will remain a puzzle to us all.
Why ask?
I think this is the trusty any mention will do Twang PR machine kicking in, new record coming out
I love them
I can't help it. That might make me old and boring. (I don't think they are the greatest in the world however!)
I thought The Maccabees were quite well liked on here.
Despite being shit.
Coldplay
Truly derivative.
show your working
if y = t(wang)
dy/dt = wang
QED
don't feed the troll
It's the first one.
The working class thing. Yeah.
they played at my Uni once
They just sounded so British. Too British, some might say. That is definitely why I didn't like them.
Because I see a band like them in almost every low rent pub with a stage in the corner
Proper lads playing proper tunes.
mate
Serious answer?
Because they're peddling a version of a style of music that was done to death years and years ago but stripped of any of the charisma, innovation or just plain old greatness of the original stuff.
Admittedly that's quite a common theme in music, but there we go.
it's just because they're shit.
and it isn't even fun to hate them (like it is with viva brother). they're just shit. that's all.
Oh COME ON
have you not heard their second album? Now that is fun to rip the piss out of!
Weekend-ah!
They did make me want to listen to Flowered Up again though.
Great bunch of lads
How does someone with 4 board posts know how much DiSers hate The Twang?
Hmmmmm?
To be fair, he's got my number on this one
Well, I for one was shocked to read they've just announced a new album and tour.
The timing of this thread must be a really strange coincidence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how very cynical of you colin
OI LAV YOW
cricket
http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4306243
but i was scum underclass....and they are local yto me so i wanted to like them
but i find no enjoyment in listenening to them
PS I dont mind the macabees
Remember when James Jam/McMahon had a lost weekend with The Twang,
and woke up thinking they were the future of music?
The Twang
I know I don't have alot of posts on this site, but there does seem to be alot of negativity towards alot of British bands even though this site is supposed to be geared towards the British music "scene". I mean, look at the new album reviews, mostly American with a couple of Euros thrown in? WTF? I'm sorry I know it's just a matter of "taste" or "bad taste", but I love the Twang and support alot of other bands from Britain and everyone here can give me all the hell they want to for it, I don't care. I think your country still produces the best indie bands/music and I will continue buy and listen to as many as possible. I also love the Courteeners, Kasabaian, Pulp, etc. and I hate Mumford & Sons & Vampire Weekend so F**k off!
Liking British bands =/= liking The Twang
dont really give a fuck where a band are from
the twang and kings of leon both suck balls
Where are Mumford & Sons from?
THE TWISTED RECTUM OF HELL
<cough> probably St Albans or somewhere.
Oddly I was going to post about the (fucking) Twang playing last week, just to get that feeble joke in about having a few tickets left <drum roll>... QUITE A FEW IN FACT...
where are you from?
shit, posted before i finished. where are you from?
because i think a lot of what gets kind of exported as what is going on or hot in the uk at the moment is a lie. like, brother on the cover of nme. if you live here you know they're a laughing stock and always have been, even to their target audience, but if you don't then there's no way you'd necessarily know that.
also, and part of the same thing, "the courteeners, kasabian, pulp etc" just does. not. scan. one of these things is not like the others.
i'm being a dick
you already said you're from the us. sorry for not paying attention properly. but my point stands: don't believe the hype. we don't, and neither should you.
Viva Brother are getting a big push in America
They've been on Letterman, they're doing CMJ, they've had a feature in Spin... weird, given the music and public image they take after didn't really take off in America first time round.
i saw that letterman thing...
and whoever does that band's tv plugging in the us should be shot.
People on here like loads of shite
It just happens to be rubbish London indie stuff like Jamie T, Emmy The Great and Bombay Bicycle Club, rather than dire Northwestern (the twang aren't even from the north west, are they? Birmingham right? Oh who gives a fuck) lad rock. Though even I'll admit the afore mentioned bands are each 10x better than the fucking Twang.
Jamie T is genuinely real good like
most people can't get over his accent, but he's got some solid song writing going on there. That alone makes him at least 1,000,000x better then The Twang
i like his accent
fucking hate his shit music and cringeworthy lyrics
Can people stop confusing all British music with The Twang?
I'm not a massive fan of Jet, it doesn't mean that I hate all Australian music...
a half-serious answer to the questions
your options are fucking stupid.
the only good oasis album is where they sound at their most working class. people confuse meat and potatoes shitepop with working class. like the enemy, the view etc. those bands aren't shit because they're working class. they're shit because they're thick. there is no correlation between thick and working class. pulp are working class (yes i know now they are loaded. in the uk you don't move between classes because of having more or less money, although your children will be born into a different class from you if you're richer/poorer than your parents were when you were born. if you're working class and a millionaire you're still working class. if you're landed gentry and down on your luck and working as a shelf-stacker you're still a posh git. end of).
yeah twang fans are dicks but they aren't, like, evil or anything. just very very tedious people with zero imagination. they won't hurt you. unless they bore you to death. they're very easy to avoid as they move pretty slowly. also there aren't that many of them, thank fuck.
people here, like people everywhere, like all sorts of stuff. some are into mastodon, and some think florence and the machine are good, and somewhere there is probably some kid who thinks mr oizo is the pinnacle of artistic achievement.
My brother actually bought The Twang's first album.
We're no longer in touch.
the maccabees are great
Not sure about great
but very good, I miss the Maccabees board
I don't think The Twang are quite as terrible as everyone is making them out to be.
They're boring and derivative, but they have come up with one or two pleasant listenable songs, such as this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEnoTdrMgXo&feature=related.
They're certainly not as bad as The Courteeners/The Enemy and their ilk.
The Maccabees are properly good though, and I wont hear a bad word said about them.
that's
aggressively unremarkable to be honest
at least the enemy and the courteeners are funny, even if it is usually by accident
the twang are just tedious. liam off the courteeners genuinely seems to have something about him.
yeah, the thing about him
being the fact he's a massive cunt
i don't mean to be a cunt or anything
but that song is the blandest thing i've ever heard
the beginning of that sounds like chop suey
but not for very long
it sounds like a bunch of lads in a pub doing a karaoke version of a stone roses song
ok that was meant for the twang video above
fucking hate this forum sometimes
