Optimus Primavera Sound 2012
For those of you that might find too expensive a long weekend in Barcelona, Primavera Sound has just announced a twin festival in the Portuguese city of Porto.
Taking place the week right after Primavera Sound, the organisers promise between 60 to 80 artists, spread out amongst different venues of the city and, 4 stages at the impresive Parque Da Cidade, right in the city's coastline.
ATP will be curating one stage just like in the Barcelona edition, and the full festival ticket go on sale this afternoon at just 65€ for the 1st 1.000 tickets.
Porto is a city with great flight connections with the UK and rest of Europe, and lodging and eating out is at least half the price than in Barcelona.
See you there!

how similar will the line-ups be?
tempted if it's more or less the same, just to see a different city.
I've never actually been to Barca,
Just wanna know about the line-ups.
Not a clue, really
My bet is that the main acts will happen in both cities, while the rest of the line up will be similar but with some artist not playing in the other city.
Nevertheless, even with 4 stages, the Porto edition seems to be considerably smaller, as usually in the Forum (Barcelona) there are around 120-150 bands.
I like Porto
I'm into it.
From a quick google image search
The site looks lovely.
I want to go to this festival just because of the name
I've taken a punt for sixty quid, I'm sure if the line-up fails I'll find someone to take it off my hands at that price.
just found this....

arcade fire, battles, fleet
foxes, james blake?
Where did you get those bands from?
All but Arcade Fire played Primavera last year.
call me thick but why are you mentioning those bands?
in the tags
I've just bought tickets for me and the Mrs.
got flights 6th - 11th for eighty quid...
not sure if that was before easyjet cottoned on but Barca certainly cost me more last year and considering it's double bank holiday weekend probably cheaper again.
I wanted to go
but it sounds a little Prima-lite edition to me & I don't like the idea of having venues dotted around the city (whenever I've been to such do's I've ended up exhausted and missing acts left, right and centre).
If I had been to Primavera Sound a couple more times, then this would be a dream ticket, but I'm after the properly beefy line up and will probably play it safe.
So where do people think they'll be staying?
Are there many details yet as to where the various venues will be littlebirds mentioned? I presumed it'd all be in one closed off area...
Setup is similar to Barcelona
i.e. the main festival is in a park called Parque da Cidada, with 4 stages over 2 days (instead of 6 stages/3 days in Barcelona). The day before and the day after there will be additional showcases in the city centre. Orgnaisers say these showcases will be similar to the events in Barcelona, so probably open-air daytime events as well as an evening show/club night indoors.
There are a number of hotels in the nearby Matosinhos area, immediately north of the park. They seem to be very decently priced: e.g. 37 euros for a double room, plus 2 (!!!) euros extra for breakfast. Haven't been able to locate any apartments near the park yet, but the ones in the centre (based on 4 people) range between 17 and 35 euros per person per night.
