James Blake rails against dubstep's emerging "frat-boy market"
James Blake comments on his frustrations with the levels of testosterone in the current dubstep, what do you think about?
http://www.dbhills.com/James-Blake-comments-about-dubstep-scene-frat-boy-market
its basically nu-metal but 10 years on
Whos the limb bizkit of dubstep then?
Skrillex
obvs
I believe it's this
http://soundcloud.com/punpzmusic/korn-and-skrillex-get-up
Oh, didn't check the article
It's there.
Still stands though.
nero
well, it's more like the clash between the logical progression style drum n bass and the Bad Company end of the market
but yeah, i see the obvious Nu-Metal comparison too.
I don't know. What am I supposed to think about it?
wub
womp
G-g-g-guess I got my swagger back WOMP WOMP WOMP WOMP WAAAAHHHH
Is James Blake heading for a fall?
what do u think, bb?
He's right.
paging brightonb
is he still banned???
brightonb is banned???
Wow I missed something there - how did he finally push Sean to the limit?
somebody asked to ban him and now he's not here, at all.
I assumed his banned. I think for the site's redesign we should have a list of all the people that are currently banned on in the 'sin bin'. A little bit like the 'these people has not allowed in this shop' signs you have in some stores. It would help make everything more transparent. For instance does CG keep on getting banned or does he just like changing his user name every couple of months.
Pretty sure he was banned for being a cunt in the RIP DJ Mehdi thread.
*every thread
His cheeks are fucking weird
why has no one mentioned this before
His face is usually all blurry.
Maybe they've gone weird from shaking his head around too much.
Fuck Mini Babybel!
apropos of nothing
macho-ism should be machismo
the -ism splits the prefix
alright there cedric?
Oh noes! Dubstep is garnering mainstream acceptance!
Time to jump ship! Amirite?
here we go
it happened last year
barely anyone good is left around 140bpm anymore...
lol'd hard
Skrillex rails against dubstep's continuing "wet sissy white boy soul dubstep"
watch this space
absolutely agree, but you know
as an indie kid my tribe has always been that aligned against testosterone fueled music for well adjusted macho men lol
dubstep had 'an ethos'
wow, who knew?
good ILM thread on "brostep" from a while back:

f'ing gerds
pot calling the kettle boring
I agree with him.
Not on the 'straying from its ethos' stuff, but that the aggressive sounding wobble music is dogdirt.
I've never seen dancing as ridiculous than at one of those nights.
Is that the finger-pointy thing
i don't get it. It's silly. Why would you ever do that it doesn't look cool.
Also 'emerging'
Hasn't this divide between the so-called 'macho-step' and the apparently more cerebral stuff been around for years now. I mean how long ago was Chainsaw Calligraphy? 2-3 years? We're way past the fact now. I thought everyone had just accepted the separate sounds and got on with it.
Also 'a direct misrepresentation of the sound as far as I'm concerned.' - i'm curious to know, as the clear ambassador of Dubstep, what the sound should be represented as?
feist covers
I think he's making the (resonable) point that if you say .'dubstep'. in the USofA that means SkrillexAngryBroStomp
and he's distancing both himself and the genre from that tag (or trying to )
There's plenty of DJs over there
that have been in tune since the start and no what's what. If he's talking about the popularised version of dubstep, as it also appears in the UK, then it's not really worth the effort of rallying against. Just look at what happened when rave crossed over in the states... http://bit.ly/n4L1Xa
I wen to a 'rave' somewhere on the beltway around Washington DC in 1995
it was hell - in a Walmart meets Prodigy kind of a way
:(
This.
It's difficult to tell people over on this shore what I've been listening to these days. "Well, dubstep, but nothing at all like what the word means to you."
I suddenly have a lot of sympathy with the people who listened to emo when suddenly the term shifted from American Football to My Chemical Romance.
Chainsaw Calligraphy
is pretty much the only dubstep track I like :3
quote - not going to appeal to women - unquote
rly? i saw queues for a couple of dubstep nights in 'the north' last year and it was a good 75% women.
ps. wub
That quote made me "lol" for a quite a bit
women love wubs
wuv wubs
wub wubs
does anyony here actually hear like james blake?
I do reasonably
think this is pretty ace
http://www.pitchfork.com/tv/pitchfork-music-festival/1742-2011/2805-james-blake-cmyk/
As a person or his music?
Sorry being facetious but yeah i like CMYK and Klavierwerke particularly. The album is alright but cant see myself listening to it much down the line. As a person who exists in article soundbites, I don't really rate him and ,if I did, 4/10.
I like his music,
especially the Klavierwerke EP. I'm not too crazy about the album, though. Oh yeah, he has a new tune, which I quite like:
http://consequenceofsound.net/2011/09/check-out-james-blake-fear-to-fear/
yes.
i love his music
but when he talks, he comes across as a bit of a cuntflap. why can't he wear a mask and be anonymous like REAL DUBSTEP ARTISTS
only metal fingers can do that and get away with it
james blake just sounds like he's trying to hard, all the time
testosteronestep vs yawnstep
I'll stick to techno.
*1992-6 jungle
I'm all for extremism
but with some substance, yeah?
I mean, I still love some of the stuff Vex'd and Spor and that were releasing a few years back, but the whole nasty bass line thing has been co-opted by people with no substance whatsoever.
my kind of level of testosterone

and as if on cue...
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/sep/29/skrillex-dubstep-interview
Is that Corey Feldman?
he used to sing in From First to Last?
wuuuttt
BUT
dubstep at it's most 'extreme' or 'filthy' or whatever is still totally tame, boring and not very noisy or aggressive at all compared to the extremes of all other dance genres. :-/
i think the 4 or so dubstep tracks i have heard i actually like are the sort of thing everyone's complaining about
i don't like Skrillex tho as far as i know
*any other dance genre
Do you ever get bored of being smug and superior
about everything ever?
Cos i get bored of you doing that. It's really boring.
you just don't 'get' my posts
'If something is boring after two minutes, try it for four. If still boring, then eight. Then sixteen. Then thirty-two. Eventually one discovers that it is not boring at all.' - John Cage.
(^___^)<3
If stabbing yourself in the face is painful for two minutes,
Try it for four. If still not painful, then eight. Then sixteen. Eventually, dead.

why bite the hand that feeds you?
I don't like Skrillex
Why do fans of electronic music have such hostile attitudes towards American people/culture?
Because Americans turn everything good into shit?!

I suspect those kids in the unofficial Skrillex video aren't entirely serious.
also
1.54 onwards :'D
classism/heteronormativity/xenophobia totally inexcusable independent of the fact that american rehashes of UK dance genres do actually objectively suck
Look, maybe my comment was too harsh,
and I certainly didn't mean it any kind of xenophobic/nationalist way, but the fact is that Americans do water-down good stuff from Europe, and vice versa.
ha mine was definitely too harsh so that's ok :)
