Best Scottish band/artist?
I'm gonna plump for Orange Juice myself, they're probably my most listened to Scottish band anyway. This is basically just an easy way for me to hear great Scottish bands that I might not have heard before so fire away

Deacon Blue
Boards of Canada
The Delgados
Belle And Sebastian
Deacon Blue or Jim Diamond
1. Boards of Canada
2. Cocteau Twins
3. The Delgados
Top three right there but i could go on all day with great scottish bands.
U.N.P.O.C.
Rustie is too much fun too.
Rustie

Hudmo

The Twilight Sad are definitely my favourite..
The Delgados
URBNRI
Frightened Rabbit for me
me too
they are definitely the most scottish, and melodramtic
though I've lost touch with what they're up to nowadays. Have they got a new album?
They're
recording album number four at the moment, which will be their first for Atlantic.
1. Boards of Canada
2. Arab Strap
3. Belle and Sebastian
4. Idlewild
5. Mogwai
Others: Twilight Sad, Found, Delgados, Mersault, Franz Ferdinand, Aereogramme.
Dude, The Proclaimers are a better band than Teenage Fanclub
I went to see Teenage Fanclub once, only being familiar with A Catholic Education
Imagine my disappoint to find they'd turned into an exact clone of The Byrds.
I'm a recent convert.
The Beta Band
The Jesus & Mary Chain
Primal Scream
................everyone else
1. Arab Strap
2. Idlewild
AC/DC
Runrig
Donnie Munro era.
Gropetown
Only one mention of the Marychain so far?
The Vaselines
Khaya
Maybe not the best but deserve a shout
Trashcan Sinitras
Urusei Yatsura
Snowblood
Baby Chaos
little known fact:
Jesus & Mary Chain are actually a bit crap.
Yeah, definitely needed that insight
Boards of Canada
Mogwai
Arab Strep
Aereogramme
Aereogramme
certainly one of the most underrated.
Haven't seen a mention of Fickle Public, who were awesome for their short lifespan. Nor any love for De Rosa? 'Mend' is a particularly lovely album.
Union of Knives is also a fantastic shout.
Otherwise; Errors, Remember Remember, Idlewild, Mogwai, Boards of Canada, Danananana..., The Twilight Sad, Meursault...
Loads of great unsigned acts too.
There are a lot of great Scottish bands
Ones not mentioned previously are Union of Knives, The Unwinding Hours, Errors, Remember Remember, (early) Biffy, Take A Worm For A Walk Week and Sucioperro. That's just ones I can recall just now
Union of Knives is a very good shout!
Their album was stunning.
They formed a new band called Song of Return who are also very, very good. Definitely worth checking out.
Unfairly maligned
Arab Strap
... with The Incredible String Band a close second
Mogwai
followed by Arab Strap in my humble opinion. Orange Juice are probably more influential then both.
again not the best but need a mention...
We Were Promised Jetpacks
what, no Biffy?
them then
Idlewild
No, no Biffy.
Let's keep it that way.
keep it what - incorrect and lacking?
if you insist
yes keep biffy out of the commentary
fucking rank smelling shite.
'mon the biff
Personally,
Boards of Canada and the Beta Band.
Quite like Soom T too as she hasn't been mentioned.
Idlewild, then The Twilight Sad, then the rest.
Hey no one has mentioned Errors yet.
Here's me mentioning Errors then.
Wait, someone did mention them
so this was unnecessary.
i don't think there's anything wrong with your endorsing his endorsement
True, but if I get into backing up all the ones I also endorse
I might be here for a while.
honourable mention to Camera Obscura
Has no one mentioned Big Country yet?
I played their first three records to death when they came out.
Good call!
The Crossing is still a brilliant album. They're playing it in full at gigs next year. Tickets bought, tartan shirt washed and ready.
Huge amount of love for all things Idlewild
And also Frightened Rabbit, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Sons & Daughters, JAMC, Mogwai, Primal Scream, Twilight Sad, Aerials Up, Sucioperro (even though the last album was fucking awful), Biffy, Errors, Camera Obscura, Franz Ferdinand (for the first album), Goodbye Mr Mackenzie, Teenage Fanclub.
Trying to get into Arab Strap, but just not quite getting it.
Big Country
Blue Nile
Average White Band
Sheena Easton
Folk singer-songwriters
Alasdair Roberts
John Martyn
James Yorkston
Bert Jansch
King Creosote
KC rules OK
Mogwai

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Life without Buildings
This thread.....
....ended at Teenage Fanclub. So behave.;)
The Skids deserve a mention
(Teenage Fanclub are shite though, fyi)
David Byrne
Scotland's own David Byrne
as the Daily Record calls him.
For me..
1. Boards of Canada 2. Mogwai 3. Jesus & Mary 4 Arab Strap 5. Errors 6. Frightened Rabbit 7. The Twilight Sad 8. Primal Screem 9. Josef K 10. Susan Boyle
hang on..
I forgot Belle & Sebastien and Orange Juice. That was inevitable.
that was going so well
probably until primal scream.
anyhoo, nobody for meursault?
and i' like to add the blue nile as a form of guilty pleasure.
i've also heard good things about.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Hot_Chilli_Pipers
why do threads i post in suddenly stop getting answered to?
i must be doing something wrong
No love for the Phantom Band?

Idlewild...
Phantom Band, Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Frightened Rabbit, Sparrow & The Workshop, My Latest Novel, Camera Obscura, Sons & Daughters...and loads more i guess.

Belle & Sebastian, DUH
here goes ...
... hook 'n pull gang, avo-8, blood uncles, lowlife, cocteau twins, goodbye mr mackenzie, the associates, rote kapelle, jesse garon and the desperadoes, the shamen (drop-era), isa and the filthy tongues, scars, aztec camera, fire engines, nectarine no 9 (not Win tho') ...
Mogwai
then Jesus and Mary Chain, then Boards of Canada.
Then there's a lot of very good bands, but thems the best probably.
Arab Strap
STRAP FACT: I saw Aidan Moffatt with his kid at the Possilpark Harvest Festival. He looked well happy and was wearing shorts.

Yeah, they've got two.
(I think.)
A Musical Tribute To The Forest Of Dean, which I believe is vinyl only and Whatever Happened To The Shrunken Tina Turner, which is here: http://theleg.bandcamp.com/album/what-happen-to-the-shrunken-tina-turner

I'm gonna chuck in a band
who I haven't seen mentioned but might appeal to some people here. try eagleowl.
loads of stuff here that I've heard already, but also loads that I'm totally unaware of so I look forward to checking some out.
i like em
Argh
I failed in my quest to name every brilliant band in Edinburgh by missing out my favourite live band.
Good shout!
Mogwai, always.
The Xcerts are probably the best Scottish band of the last few years.
Drever, McCusker & Woomble's album...
Before the ruin. I love it
Belle & Sebastian
attention Orange Juice fans: the emperor has no clothes
Dananananaykroyd
Not the best Scottish band of all time but they certainly were fantastic and in light of today's announcement they deserve a shout.
Two amazing albums.
Shame to see them go.
Aereogramme
Never any Aereogramme love. Sup?
You should see my post a bit further up.
Kylie Minoise
Gay Against You
One of my favourite live bands. Does anyone know if they're still going?
They are no more. One of the guys has went on to form Ben Butler & Mousepad.
:(
I was hoping that wasn't the case, although I did know about Ben Butler & Mousepad
ctrl + f 'lap'
FUCK YOU DIS
THE 'GUAE FOREVER
The brilliantly named We Are The Physics
who brilliantly shortened their name from We Are The Physics Club So Everything We Say Is Fact. God they make a fine racket for a pack of specky twats !
You all need There Will Be Fireworks in your life too
Great band, amazing debut album!
Definitely...
do you know if they're recording new stuff?
They are indeed
The Pop Cop wrote something about it...
http://thepopcop.co.uk/2011/08/there-will-be-fireworks-album-2-the-making-of-their-masterpiece/
Spoke to Dobbie from the band about this piece and he said it's blown a bit out of proportion and is now shitting himself that people are now expecting something amazing.
I'm sure it will be great though.
Life Without Buildings
Were pretty sweet.
Jus' sayin'
(if they were scottish!)
Sluts of Trust
are a band who I'd like to see/to have seen more from.
Mull Historical Society
obvo
Prolapse
Urusei Yatsura

Board of Canada - where to start?
The Campfire Headphase is a good start!
also worth noting some of the quality DJs/producers
DJ Plus One (Scratch Perverts, World DMC champ)
DJ Krash Slaughta (II Tone Committee, Monkey Mafia)
DJ Richie Rufftone
As well as a shed load of others like Dema and Nice, Bunty, Nasty P, and so on.
Nice
