this is fairly exciting news: http://www.nme.com/news/ben-folds-five/59308
it would be amazing if they toured as well
Remains one of the best shows I have ever seen. This is good news provided they come over to the UK and they don't charge a king's ransom for tickets.
Not entirely sure about how new material would sound, Ben Folds definitely seems to have "grown up" quite a lot and I've been left cold by most of his recent output I've heard.
Can't see them ever scaling the heights of Whatever And Ever Amen again, but hopefully the new stuff will be more in that vein than the Reinhold Messner era and they treat this more like a revisitation of their 20s rather than showing how much they have matured.
The way the band played together was magic, lets hope they still have that connection!
www.thesuburbs.org.uk and you'll find links to hear two of the three new tracks. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Adore Folds' solo work but never really got into BFF, so not really excited. But hoping this'll sound good anyway, more of anything related to Folds is always good news.
The first two Ben Folds Five albums are so much better than anything Ben Folds has done solo surely?! What is it you don't like about them?
They just do nothing to me. I've heard the first two albums a fair few times and they sound thoroughly okay but nothing beyond that. There isn't really anything specific in the BFF material that I could name that turns me off; there's just nothing in them that grabs me. Whereas I wouldn't hesitate at all calling Folds one of my favourite songwriters based solely on the strength of his solo albums, which I love dearly.
As I have seen Ben Folds Five play live and I was into them when they were around, but ... really?
Please give the first two albums more listens. Solid gold brilliance, where to me Folds' solo albums are just a man with a piano singing some nice songs he wrote because he needed to write some songs.
