The best-produced and best-sounding single evah.
(Sign me up, Mojo)
(But yeah, seriously)
it is really good though
waiting for the thing that was going through "all of their videos chronologically".
arnold layne and that's it. already into the 'epic' solos and eyes closed. feel robbed.
that video thing was pretty boring though. I did really enjoy the Live in Pompeii thing
no narration, just videos and promo clips of their tunes.
And I just can't really give them any time after the first album. Even the second one which has some of Barrett on it is, to me, nothing like what made that one great.
I really dislike their obsession with imagery. The floating pig and the monsters on stilts etc.
that came out before Dark Side. kinda repetitive, really spacey, and pretty badasss, has more in common with bands like early Karutrock bands like Can, Ash Ra Tempel, Guru Guru, Amon Duul II and the weirder end of English art/prog rock eg Third era Soft Machine or King Crimson.
eg Careful with that Axe, Eugene
I mean, their strength shifted from killer songs to lengthy jams, so it is nothing like Syd Barrett era, fair enough if you don't dig it, etc
live there was plenty of jams in the barrett era
don't showcase their jams (apart from Interstellar Overdrive). hence, it's pretty reasonable to assume a lot people who dig the Syd Barrett era probably prefer the songs.
just trying to get people to listen to some music that think is really good that they may have overlooked in the past - nothing really contentious, is it?
It's almost a different band compared to the Barrett era, of course.
(Pink Floyd was my first true love as a listener)
Don't really like early Pink Floyd that much either (Arnold Layne, See Emily Play excepted).
no one can say that they haven't done great stuff after Barrett left.
Ie, Echoes (IMHO, the best Floyd song ever!)
The one that was on last night, inspired me to pull out the first two album's by them. It's all I own by PF,forgot how bloody good they actually where! sort of experimenting with their post barrett era stuff atm,not too shabby tb.
slightly faster with a heavier bass mix. really good.
The Wall is still a good album (with some great tracks), it just marks the first major step down after an amazing run of albums. Never could get into 'The Final Cut' or the post-Waters stuff though.
cant think of many bands that can match their albums, legacy, story etc. as someone pointed out already, a lot of their stuff post barrett was weird, avant garde, krauty soundtrack stuff but they will always get lumped into Q\Uncut dad rock territory.
Syd's solo stuff is brilliant as well, cant stop listening to Madcap Laughter at the moment.
i like Uncut and do buy it from time to time. you got the point i was trying to make anyway..
the outtakes at the end are a bit uncomfortable to listen to. if they werent included then its just an album of weird pop songs
