Its probably their best album. Up All Night was a baffling choice for a lead single though.
There is a fair chance you would have liked them then, and possibly might want to check out their new stuff. Not saying you did like them, but still...
I loved them when I was that age (around self-titled era), and I want to see how one of my childhood favourite bands have progressed. I still enjoy many of their songs, and I think the new album has some really strong songs on. They might not be as "grown up" as some of the stuff you listen to, but they write pleasant, catchy pop songs which I enjoy.
I really wish I could stop being such an over-earnest prick, sorry.
I don't really like them now.
The point I ended up leaving out my post, but intended to say, was that by using your age, you sounded condescending.
I thought they were awful then
but really don't think much of it. 'Natives' is an excellent song, and my favourite on the album. 'After Midnight' is pretty good. 'Hearts All Gone' is great, and the awfully titled 'MH 4.18.2011' is decent even if I don't know what it means by 'living in the shadow of a helicopter'.
Otherwise I thought all the other tracks were pretty weak. I mean 'Snake Charmer' could be good but has some awful lines, various others are pretty forgettable. It generally feels a bit rushed I think. I just realised the rip I got is a different tracklisting to the one being reported here (http://www.fanatix.com/news/blink-182-unveil-tracklisting-for-new-record-673/). Maybe that will sway my opinion a bit given it cuts off a load of filler tracks.
For comparison, in true Radiohead style (sorry everybody): Dude Ranch > Enema > S/T > Neighborhoods > Pants and Jacket. Haven't heard Cheshire Cat enough to consider it, though I do love 'M&Ms'.
just checked on itunes and the tracklisting isn't radically different. I just got a rip of the delux edition. It seems a bit wrong to be casting judgement before the thing is even out, but hey-ho, I'll probably end up just buying the tracks I like and add them to my playlist of great Blink songs for those guilty pleasure moments.
I think the order works well. I agree about some of the lines being crap, particularly on This Is Home, but then musically the song is pretty good. Most the filler is on the bonus tracks, and I agree with you on Snake Charmer though.
I'd probably say Neighborhoods > S/T > Dude Ranch > Enema > Cheshire Cat > Pants & Jacket.
I like my Blink fast and stupid. this serious song matter (Adam's Song excepted) will never be as good as Anthem, I'm Sorry, Aliens Exist, Waggy, Josie, Wendy Clear etc...
but I guess thats what you get with being like 40 now (http://rarepunkmusic.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/blink182upall-300x187.jpg) [cringe]
Kaleidoscope is my favourite track. I'm not that big into Love is Dangerous, Even If She Falls and Snake Charmer, but the rest is solid.
The Mark to Tom ratio could have been better.
it seems ok, but will take a few listens to make up my mind.
