It kinda seems that way. Which is odd.
and that sometimes for whatever reason, people are just seen as not cool anymore.
Not going mad, honest
but that's why i shouldn't have even bothered. because there's no way i can prove this. or maybe you're right. or maybe they've never really topped The Devil's Crayon or His Grinning Skull from the first album.
Here's a maudlin ballad from the 80s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvlhHJNppQg&ob=av2e
I liked Smother but it didn't have the impact on me that the previous two records did.
They should just make the Mercury all about debut records and be done with it.
I like Smother more but it lacks the shock of the new. Limbo Panto was way out there and 2 Dancers felt like a completely new direction, this one is more of the same.
See also Anthony and the Johnsons.
being their 'worst' has sod all to do with the fact that it is still a brilliant album. It's comparable to other artists favourably but maybe not to their previous work.
Regardless, It is still sublime and leaves many other 'good' releases this year in its shadow.
has fallen off for me. Few of tracks on there, Invisible, Burning, Deeper - they felt dull pretty quickly. It's a pity, but there it is
(as well as Loop the Loop) are my favourite on the record
not as good as the two previous ones- nothing to do with Mercury kockbacks!!
also there's this weird thing where they rarely give nominations to an indie band who've had an album win or be nominated in the previous few years. Elbow are an exception mind. Dog Man Star not getting a shout after Suede had won for the debut 2 years before is the classic example. The Horrors non-nomination is flat out befuddling.
(Nothing at all against PJ)
