First point - oh dear. They're one of the best singles bands ever.
World in Motion
And World in Motion is only good cos it's a World Cup song that features John Barnes rapping.
or 90% of Singles. Even when they got a bit ropey there was still stuff like Regret and Crystal.
Only New Order can get away with such terrible lyrics too
they're one of the best band existed on earth and popular/unpopular bands keep copying - stealing from - them. simple fact.
they were struggling to shift tickets last time they toured, I'm not sure recent events have exactly enhanced their mystique. If they packed out the arenas of the land and went out on a roaring high it'd be one thing, but I just can't see this ending well AT ALL.
but, y'know, I have so little time or respect for Peter Hook these days that I really couldn't give a shit. Let them do what they want.
and NO minus Hook is unlikely to be more embarrassing than Freebass or The Light in any case
wel that sounds pretty reasonable.
I was in an oblique mood, hence the oblique heading. And lazy. I was in a lazy mood too.
NO had quit after Technique. I love this band like they're part of my family but since the demise of Factory they've lost the mystique that made them so special. Appearing on Baywatch, recording with Billy Corgan & fucking Scissor Sisters, reading their lyrics off autocue, Barney shouting "COME ON!" during LWTUA, Bad Lieu-fucking-tenant, Hooky touring a Joy Division tribute band...brings a tear to my eye.
That way we still would have got Crystal.
...and the glorious title track off WFTSC. But I'd trade those in order to wipe Jetstream and Rock the Shack out of existence, along with the Baywatch appearance, Keith Allen dicking around on stage at Finsbury Park and Hooky touring Low-Life with Rusty Lee on vocals (it's only a matter of time).
I mean you get Sonic Youth on Gilmore Girls these days.
I love Crystal too much I guess, so if all of the last album bar Krafty and the title track exists, so be it.
They filmed a via satellite performance for Top Of The Pops on the same beach and got Hasselhoff to show up in a cameo. How is it so different to the much lauded Flaming Lips on Beverley Hills 90210 appearance?
that pre-Republic, you'd never have got NO lyp-synching on a beach in the company of David Hasselhoff. Their mystique & was wittily summed up for me by Smash Hits, who wrote around 1985 "We're going to make a New Order book. It'll be baked inside a cake and only available to residents of the Channel Islands".
I'd forgotten how totally righteous that song is
most of the people posting don't even follow dance music and have no idea what has happened in the 'bass' scene of late.
Hooky plays all this namby-pamby flouncy bass toss. It's the musical equivalent of giving a housemate a tenner to go out and buy essential foodstuffs for the house only for him to come back with a chocolate bar, a tub of maoams and a copy of FHM instead
but better then them never doing anything again, and it really doesn't look like they'll all perform together, so it's this or nowt.
