New album omgggg. Excited.
Its my girlfriends kids on the cover, Max and Evie. Cheers.
One of the only bands I don't understand how you COULDN'T like.
I love them but can see why people wouldn't
Because that's the message-board equivalent of listening to them...
(Few bands inspire such ire within me as Los Campesinos.)
...but their worst songs are a whole load of shouty nonsense which I cannot bear.
For what it’s worth I think musically they’re pretty tight – but the frontman’s personality and lyrics really, really aren’t for me. He’s a talented writer, but his lyrics are obscenely cloying. As is his voice.
I can’t listen to that song being a work, sadly...
...and you'll stop people trolling.
And besides I'm not trolling, I don't like the band, I just wanted to find a more humourous way of telling The Internet™ that then saying "I don't like this band because they are an overly earnest precession of guff".
I like Los Campesinos
it's kinda what they do best. Really didn't like the latest album that much, at least when compared with the first.
that "allERGIC RE-ACTION to a GENERAL ANAESTHATIC" makes me criiiiiinge.
that said, in medias res is probably my favourite LC! song.
Maybe someday I'll be manage to face listening to everything else to check.
(nb. I liked the first album stuff at the time but I can't really stand it anymore)
Lots of bands I instantly blocked from memory.
The word truly has lost all meaning.
really needs to be banned, all it really means is 'I don't like it'
I'm just talking about 'annoyingly twee' here.
than Kings of Leon!
The Smiths? I don't think so.
And they don't have the mordant wit of Morrissey, or anything really close to it.
They are however a perfectly good (if slightly too emo) indie pop group with a range of sounds, a certain turn of phrase, a hyper-aware quality and literate personality.
So, good yeah, but not The Smiths.
That the album cover is gorgeous. Got a feeling that the album will go down the lines of "The Sea Is A Good Place..." from the last one. Anyway looking forward to this a lot now!
Need to find £20 now, to get the vinyl bundle. If they improve onj this album, has they have done for the previous three, surely album of the year?!
gonna go listen to their back catalogue now, it's been a while.
Los Campesinos! forthcoming festive record, featuring eight new tales of lust, heartbreak and Christmastime.
I have kind of a love/hate thing with them. They can be far too much at times. So who knows how this album will pan out.
Better no be shite!
Has made me unsure how many people are actually excited about this, and I'm afraid to admit I very much am; haven't listened to them properly for ages- they were such a 1st yr of Uni band, but I enjoy their lyrics, if a little emo they are interesting in small doses. Plus, they write chunes a-plenty.
If you gauged how vehemently they're hated you'd think they're a lot bigger than they are.
Genuinely love them and am looking forward to this a lot, pre-ordered the CD bundle and the vinyl separately. I'm a big fan.
but they insist on keeping that awful, awful singer
He appears to be in charge.
I'M BETTER THAN YOU IF YOU'RE EXCITED FOR THIS NYUH NYUH NYUH
Favourite band of all time, probably.
the music is delicious, and the lyrics are great, but the vocal just makes me cringe.
Hey there! Hello! Its album!
it is entirely apt that this album was announced today.
can't wait. hope they tour again this year.
all their albums have been pretty special in their own ways, but none of them have quite been the 9.5 or 10/10 album that I'm pretty sure they're capable of.
I'm sort of hoping this album picks up from where The Sea Is A Good Place... and In Medias Res from the last album left off, but having said that I've probably connected most with WAB,WAD out of all their albums. The first half of that one is just indescribably perfect, not to mention it's got Heart Swells/Pacific Daylight Time which absolutely slays me every time I hear it.
Valid comment for both of them IMO
but of the two I prefer "... but let's talk about you for a minute...". Just so good in context.
hope you're all proud of yourselves
Romance Is Boring is one of my favourite albums of all time.
I'm glad they've left it at 10 tracks. As much as I love RiB, I felt it's length and number of tracks made it quite exhausting.
although I can completely understand why others might not be.
I like Gareth's pithy delivery and think he's lyrically excellent, if slightly emo at times. But sometimes in interview or live he just comes across a bit of a precocious tit.
he comes across as a bit precious.
..and I've always really hated Los Campesinos!"
Read that somewhere, and it pretty much sums it up. They're like those Xiu Xiu moments which are all "well, this is terrible.. but it's great though, isn't it?".
(Still really excited for this!)
Of the bands that have started up in the time I've been paying attention to music (aka bands I started listening to when they were new), LC! ranks up there with my favorites, if not my most favorite. Gareth has yet to write a line that didn't come across as perfectly executed in my eyes (Romance is Boring proves just how excellent he is with this, though then again so did We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed), and I have yet to be disappointed with any of their work. I can only think of a handful of songs I even remotely dislike, and even that dislike is merely comparative.
So, in other words... I'm really, really excited. My wife and I have agreed, though, that the best thing about a new LC! album is an LC! tour, which we've been itching for for ages.
ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS I SUPPOSE
... just me?
But they have the best part of 3 albums worth.
Oh, wait, this was a sarcastic put down. I get it now. Nevermind.
a few things: yes, they are overly earnest, yes they share twee vocals with the likes of Bearsuit and Johnny Foreigner, that yes, can be considered annoying - I can definitely understand that. I used to love Los Campesinos, but went of them for a while, only to revisit them again today after seeing news of their new album. They have written some absolutely cracking songs - try this for goosebump prompting indie pop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tk0vQhxyR5Y or this for for one of the bands more sincere approaches http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsZg946uNic - they're not to everyones taste, but obviously lots of people on here like them, and oh boy, they're a tight band.
the vocals are awful
I was actually thinking, "Wow, that's just subtle for Dis"
Turns out it's not sarcastic. Gutted.
The vocalist is probably the most uncool, ugly looking thing that's ever existed.
that i look for in any band i decide to like too.
I can't imagine anyone listening to them at the bus-stop or something.
being english and all i expected him to sound american.
using a strong english accent when singing is poor technique
New track = Great not overly sure about the new guy's backing vocals though towards the end.
But I enjoyed him as sparky deathcap when he supported los camp a while ago, so his inclusion in the band can only be a good thing i reckon.
his voice is bearable
But hopefully that doesn't reflect how the album as a whole will compare.
And pft, Rob's vocals at the end is one of the best bits.
Quite different to the stuff and the last two albums, a nice change. The video is awesome as well. Definitley going to Kings College, just need me student loan to come in now!
It did grow on me a bit though, but cheap lyrics and whatever his face's voice is worse than ever, works best when they've got a few of them chanting the chorus.
The song was alright, will probably grow on me if I listen to it a few more times.
I had to get up and face the other way when listening to the song with the video on. The stupid sad/hopeless/upset faces were irritating and laughable, completely ruined the first listening of the song. That said, I should have known, they are not a band known for their good music videos.
Love all of Los Camp stuff so far and am a 'heat rash' subscriber so I hope the album doesn't suckkk.
I'm a horny teenager that just got reminded that the band contains decent twee girls ffs
but can see why lot's of people don't.
Gareths lyrics are great, but his voice is a bit grating at times, the new guy also writes really good lyrics, I really like his solo stuff, not sure his voice really suited the new song though.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ihuSuCc74k "by the lake that bled blue rivers full of rain" - "if the devil loves details then godliness floats in the vague"
I said it was great! Whatta liar.
I vehemently dislike this band. File under: bands who only weird people like. Next to Bright Eyes.
and I pure hard love By Your Hand. I was a bit worried about how the 'more pop' thing would work out, but they've totally nailed it.
awwwww man. So good.
but I was enjoying the less direct stuff on the last album and was wondering where they were going to take it next. Shouldn't have worried though.
Their new song is actually quite good. I'm a little bit deaf today and I'm listening on shitty mac speakers but I'm pretty sure I enjoyed it.
I liked it too, reminded me of Passion Pit, strangely. Need another spin.
it feels like they've slwoyl figured themselves out, maybe.
Really wasn't a fan of Romance is Boring or the vast majority of We Are Beautiful ...
probably my favourite parts of their earlier stuff
unless there are strings on the rest of the album? i know harriet just left but i assumed she would have been on the album as they recorded it a few months back - have to wait and see i guess.
- still really good song (as always)
i base this off nothing but my imagination and vague ideas.
I'm interviewing them this week, anyone got any burning questions they might like asked?
Where is issue #2?
I'll ask that one last.
It's brilliant (from one listen)
Might be time to reevaluate the Killers?
but at least they're trying.
and I bloody love it. Good tempo, beautiful, brilliant lyrics and nice to hear the violin hasn't been comletley dtiched. Can't wait for November now.
I'm a Heat Rash subscriber and was promised 4 issues per year, i have had one so far, after subscribing before Xmas lat year. Then i get an email telling me i can pre-order the album for slightly cheaper because i'm a heatrash subscriber. So basically paying my money for a quarter of what i was promised and a discount.
Their new songs aren't great, they've sold out to Budweiser and their twitter(s) are full of arrogant twaddle.
'sold out' is a bit extreme, it's just the riff from dancing, no vocals are used. it's an understandable compromise from a relatively small band in exchange for a big wad of money, i doubt they're rolling in it.
I don't really mind too much as long as they get them all done in the end eventually.
MUMMY, A BAND I LIKE HAS GOT MONEY FROM A NASTY COMPANY AND MIGHT HAVE REACHED A NEW AUDIENCE IN DOING SO
they've said repeatedly that HR was delayed because of them working on a new record, which, you know, they have to do to continue making a living, and that you'll still get everything in the long run.
in the meantime you get cheaper merch and (i think) no booking fees on tickets. boohoo.
I would say that it's their most "accessible" song to date. Can see the influence from the new drummer in it as drives the song forward unlike previous LC songs
for them to reach a wider audience.
I forgot that after Kim Gordon did GAP selling out was cool.
I really loved their first two albums and really liked Romance is Boring, i will inevitably like the new record. I don't like their attitude, esp re Heat Rash as i'll not be continuting my subscription. Money for nothing.
And you've used the term 'selling out' again - once was bad enough. 'Don't like their attitude' - they're hardly Billy Corgan all of a sudden.
to me moaning on here about it, they tweet about it being on its way, wonderful.
I like using the term selling out. I like diy culture and am not motivated by money.
AND BABY I GOT IT BAD
I'VE BEEN DIGGING MY GRAVE FOR QUITE SOME TIME
WHEN I'M NOT DIGGING UP THE PAST
it's their best song by a long stretch. I just wish it was like, three minutes longer with lots of ridiculous guitaring. The fade-out doesn't do it justice.
Absolutely my 3 favourite tracks of the year.
YOU ARE AN ANGEL, THAT'S WHY YOU PRAY
it's a proper heartbreaker.
it's somewhere on the borderline between faintly disturbing and oddly hilarious. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V5SiMKkZrs&feature=player_embedded
Album got 8.0 from Pitchfork, I think their review actually 'gets' the album pretty well too.
she gonna get hit on my every inept indie boy in the world now
that's actually quite an interesting read, but probably a bit ill-advised unless she wants a LOT of creepy fanboy attention from now on.
(respectively 8.4, 8.3, 8.3, should you care)
Odd thing about this release is LC! are clearly a big cult concern these days and there's a lot to say about them, yet I reckon this has turned out to be the lowest profile release of any of their albums - never mind a lack of interviews and whatnot, a lot of newspapers and at least one monthly music magazine didn't even review it. Can't imagine it'll get a decent chart position if the preorders aren't included either.
in terms of getting publicity
they're fully playing to their established audience with it in many ways, both in terms of the record itself and how they've been selling it with all the preorder packages and stuff, i doubr chart positions are particularly important.
besides, i fully see them coming back in 15 months with the next one, and it being full of 'bangers'.
but released far more quickly, plays into what I'm saying up there really.
but i keep going back to particular songs and then end up listening to more of it by accident, it's really slowly growing on me
Isn't there some unwritten record label law where you shouldn't release new music in November to January - unless you're Rihanna or Beiber or have a total guarantee to ship music. It's probably something to do with that.
I'm really coming round on this, I find myself pressing play a lot. By Your Hand is utterly addictive, and some of the other choruses... lyrics have seeped in slowly too. Good show.
Definitely the most immediate of their albums - though I've noticed that each album has felt more immediate than the last, so that might just be a corollary of being a fan.
Also the most mixed, I feel. There are some songs which are absolutely amongst their very, very best (By Your Hand/Songs About Your Girlfriend/Hello Sadness/To Tundra/Baby I Got The Death Rattle) but the others, whilst good, I'm already skipping through a bit. I still listen to the other three albums all the way through, as I don't find there's as clear a difference in quality.
Pitchfork score is good and proper, I'd say.
Got to let my views settle.
i LOVE to tundra, life is a long time, and stuff. really impressive.
To Tundra might be the best thing they've ever done. Hello Sadness continues to be one of my favourite standalone tracks of the year. The only track that hasn't won me round yet is Hate For the Island.
is one of my favourites. Find the album slumps in the middle though, Life and Divorce both being probably the only two songs that bore me a bit, the former of which I'm slowly coming around to.
and they didn't seem to miss the violin girl (Harriet?) at all, which i was slighlty concerned about. The new songs played live made me realise how good this album actually is.
I loved "Romance is boring". Apparently this record sees them grow up a little bit. I've heard 2By Your Hand" and I loved it, although it's far from their best. Hmm, I'll have to check it out.
