But I haven't heard You've Got the Love enough yet!
Her success is evidence that people in this country will gobble up any musical turd providing that it gets enough airplay, is easily available to buy in Tescos and it's namechecked enough by newspapers and magazines that should know better. Listen to Bat For Lashes or I Break Horses instead.
it's just shouting.
I don't understand how how people can bash her as "any musical turd". She has a distinctive voice and her music is different to the rest of the top 40, and (imo) is one of the only people that gets into the charts without sounding incredibly cheesy or chart made.
On the other hand, the production seems a little funny in this song at points (1:18), like Paul Epworth got the balance between her vocals and the instrumental completely wrong
I find myself singing rolling in the deep after listening to that
can't say I was massively keen on the first record really either, but could see why people might like it
I think some of the criticism she seems to be getting based on her actually selling a few records whiffs a bit of indie snob bullshit
Has nothing to do with that bloody awful cover of You've Got the Love or her being just generally average.
but the opinion of her being generally average (and getting fairly well reviewed on release) seems to have changed to her being the worst thing ever on the back of some big sales
yeah, really not all that great and I'm sure a fair few people around here would have hated it on release
still maintaining this really isn't the worst thing to have charted in recent years by quite a long stretch and pretty sure criticism's gone massively up as the sales figures have done likewise
it's the ubiquity of the sight and sound of her
I mean, this is nothing directly related to Florence Machine - it's more that if something is a bit grating and you can't escape it it slowly turns to torture and rage
but I fully appreciate the point
(also I'm in quite a horrible sniping mood this evening for various reasons so you can probably ignore the above posts)
but I have to say, on first listen, I'm loving this and I thought her cover of you've got the love was one of the worst songs in recent memory. Goes a bit big on the bombast from the four minute mark onwards but overall... yeah.
but this, frankly, is my cue to avoid the radio for the next year.
I'll take it over a lot of radio crap, it's just a bit forgettable.
