Jesus. Why does this keep happening?
What's going on with this stuff lately? Is it just a stormier than usual summer?
Seems they were all caused by storms and high winds.
Storms or not, you don't go to a festival merely hoping to avoid death in the process - you trust that the stages will hold
storm looked savage though:
two confirmed dead, 40 injured
Dry the River were due on the stage tonight
Official update now says three dead, 11 seriously injured, 60 more with other injuries.
We've had festivals for years. We've had storms for years.
You think it's not front page news in Belgium? And won't be for days and days to come? Wtf is wrong with you?
this wasn't simply a case of a stage blowing over in a gust - trees were ripped out from their roots.
It was a savage storm
mind you in future festival stages may have to be placed further from trees and shut down earlier on weather advice
ironically, the placing of stages near trees usually serves as a wind barrier and protects against failures
And the storm was gale force and ripped up trees.
No tent or temporary structure I can think of would be able to stand up to weather like that.
When Gale force storms hit Britain, roofs have been ripped off, uprooted trees knock down walls, etc, etc and these are buildings that are meant to stand for tens of years.
It's a terrible thing to happen, and it's likely legislation will be tightened on the back of it.
I think your username is particularly apt in this case.
Thoughts are with all involved :(
Sad times for music festivals right now
that the stage was fine, but the trees around it were uprooted and smashed into it? That is insane, and would certainly be very different to a stage just not being put up properly.
Awful news though.
The Smith Westerns' press release/tweets suggested they at first thought the stage had 'merely' given way.
is mad. I don't think you can legislate for the sort of storm they had. I went last year, so it's particularly scary for me as I spent a lot of time on the aforementioned stage.
Five officially dead, added to the deaths they had last year (Charles Haddon and a relative of BRMC) - this festival is cursed. A shame, because it's a really good event.
My mates at that driving some shite metalcore band about, i thought he was over egging it on Facebook abit. Didnt realise how bad it was
