I think it might be Silence from Third.
It'd give me a headache if it wasn't such a great song.
Does it for me. Or Roads.
is my favourite.
TV has kinda ruined it though.
need better friends.
Would have said Roads but Hollyoaks destroyed that song for (amongst many other songs).
this is what it does to you
In my opinion the best three-song run in any of their albums is Over -› Humming -› Mourning Air, and the one in the middle is Portishead's best song.
I can't pick just one. I can hardly pick which album I like the most, though s/t is always in the Top 2 regardless of my mood.
I do want to quote my friend's wife, who said two jarringly ignorant things on Facebook the other day. Portishead is,
A. so "1994."
B. a "one-hit wonder."
Bear in mind, her musical taste is limited to radio rock (she thinks that Mumford & Sons is a good example of an alt-country act) but still...
they have that atmospheric, dance influenced sound that seems to be 'in' at the moment (the whole James Blake/ the xx thing), I don't know though, just listened to Dummy and it doesn't sound dated to me.
1st track, 1st album, all downhill from there.... no, just kidding, although that's my favourite track
Mysterons, Cowboys, Silence. <3
I really hope that they announce a Boston show soon...
an out-take from the The Cure's Pornography sessions. Great track.
but it ain't easy to choose.
It's simply fucking awesome, I had to be peeled off the wall first time I heard it.
I really like Third as a whole and I really like all tracks on it bar one. But I never really understood why everyone would rave about The Rip, but no one ever seemed to rate We Carry On.
Most of the reviews at the time raved about The Rip & Machine Gun, but We Carry On was all too often overlooked. I've always thought it sounds like what Joy Division would have become if Ian had lived. I mean musically, I don't mean he would've started singing like a woman. Obviously.
Especially the version on NYC Live.
