NME was the only one that got it right last year.
i think it's because i just generally hate weird complex indie rock (e.g. Dirty Projectors, Fiery Furnaces, Yeasayer etc...)
yes, I do feel like I'm missing out.
and I don't get them particulaly. I can enjoy some stuff, but mostly it sounds too bombastic and overblown to really connect, but can also really admire how it's done etc etc
'bombastic and overblown' - completely lacks focus, just sounds and sounds and sounds all thrown together which sound impressive but are completely forgettable. As a result the record is completely impenetrable, lacks any subtlety or space for the listener's imagination, gets a 9.2 from p4k, and just makes me really really bored.
I do quite like AnCo though so go figure. I'm not levelling these accusations at Puritans as I didn't give the record enough of a chance. I kind of just wrote it off after I heard some gentlemen rap over a tuba. I'll reserve the rest of my thoughts on the genre for another thread.
Ok, I'm done here.
Is absolutely brilliant too. Elvis a standout single
