Heavy grooves and soulful singing is what I want
Heavily recommended if not.
The band sounds really raw and his voice sounds so much more muscular than on any other recordings. Its my favourite live album in any genre.
On the subject of live albums, everyone goes on about James Brown at the Apollo (and it IS good), but my favourite JB performance is Love Power Peace: Live at the Olympia 1971. It's with Bootsy and the rest of the JBS, focuses on the funk material, and has a nine minute version of Sex Machine. Sold.
...the 2004 compilation on Honest Jon's. Absolute quality.
