or is it only liek 89%?
but Grant Hart wrote Girl On Heaven Hill and Pink Turns To Blue, which are two of my favourites. The very best Mould songs are way better than the very best Hart songs though.
like - I'm not a big fan of those 2...Not to knock, obviously, it just seems that the Mould ones are always like these big soaring bangers while the Hart stuff just always seems kinda like a sulky dirge that never quite clicks, innit. IMHO
think about it, decide.
but over the years I've come to love many of Hart's songs as much, if not more, than Mould's (I particularly love Books About UFOs, Green Eyes, Never Talking To You Again) ... they compliment each other very well in any case (the songs, that is, not the songwriters)
If You Are Lonely was a Hart song, yes?
In general I prefer Bob's stuff but he's very inconsistent. I find Husker Du's material very patchy as a rule, perhaps because they were so prolific.
The Sugar years were Bob's songwriting purple patch :-)
I even still have a huge place in my heart for the Mega City 4 cover of it.
Green Eyes, Girl Who Lives On Heaven Hill, Sorry Somehow, Every Everything....
Although he also wrote The Baby Song, and that sucks balls.
that I've got on my MP3 player so I forgot it existed. And then I listened to the CD version and it came on in all its novelty horror. Ugh.
that's a bomb
Funnily enough I heard Sugar before Husker Du, my sister got me Copper Blue when I was like... 12? And I loved it... so I guess I am a Mouldman.
I had Copper Blue when I was about 15/16 and it was only when I went to uni I discovered Husker Du and all those 80s SST bands.
but constantly seeing Grant Hat on the list at the side of my screen has improved my morning no end
If it wer yes, you would be saying that Mould's worst ever song is still better than 'Sorry Somehow' or 'Don't Wanna Know if you are Lonely'.
And that would be crazy.
Mould certainly wrote more good songs though. Hart is a bit of a wasted talent.
maybe this warrants its own thread, sorry for hijacking
so not always
Rites Of Spring > Minor Threat
Picciotto's so much more consistent:
Strangelight/Oh (actually all of his argument stuff)
He's also a far more competent vocalist as well as songwriter, Ian McKaye just barks a lot as his songs do. Apart from (other than the ones mentioned) Repeater, Break and Epic Problem he's pretty weak (but obviously still better than most other music)
