Maybe you don't like it or whatever, but they have offered something really fantastic here that fans will love. This is the kind of thing that some people will remember for the rest of their lives. It is definitely worth that price to some people.

you have a point, but i am just going with the opinion that this is a fun idea. I could look into the ethics of the whole thing but really no one is being exploited, it is all just a bit of fun and i'm sure that is the only reason Weezer want to do this.
You could apply the logic of pricing people out of everything. Some people wouldn't be able to afford that forest thing either, but that is just how society is atm.
It's a bit more than just a festival though.
Half of that festival was people saying that the death of festivals is due to them all being the same, with the same bands nothing unique. This is an example of people trying to create something unique. Yeah, it's expensive, but the target audience is more specific than it'd just be for a Weezer gig in London. It's going to be for massive Weezer and Dinosaur Jr fans, which means it isn't going to be 16 year olds desperate to get hammered and start a riot at their first Leeds festival, it's going to be older people with a bit more money to splash on what's guaranteed to be an amazing few days.
You know they're also playing shows where tickets are $35? I think if anyone was expecting to pay less than that to see Weezer then they're a bit mental.

Creating something that's special in order to sell more tickets isn't bullshit. Look at the Secret Garden Party, that's sold out with a pretty dreadful lineup, but they've somehow garnered the reputation that it's all artsy and special and unlike any other festival, and therefore people want to go. What's bullshit is when people get worked up about the ideas of bands that they don't even care about.

It's a lot of money and it obviously totally prices out poorer fans, but I doubt they stand to make a mint out of it. And we're talking about a middle aged band with a middle aged main support (Dinosaur Jr + spin off bands); $599 + flights is a chunk of money, but it's unlikely to be prohibitive to somebody of their age earning pretty average money.

I think this is a great idea. I don't go to work every single fucking day of my life to spend money on a god damn weezer show at a library. If i want to go on the weezer cruise and enjoy something different and memorable then who are you to tell me im morally bankrupt?
It's the same premise as ATP. Offering generally white middle class 30 somethings with an outlet to see left of mainstream bands in a comfortable environment and willing to pay for that privilege.
If you love music (in this case 90's indie), have the expenditure and see this as a special event, then forking out $$$ for it is a no brainer.

The price
isn't that far off what you'd pay for a normal 4 day cruise anyway. Add in some bands and stuff and the price seems pretty fair for the type of demographic who'd go on it (hardcore fans and older fans with some cash to spare).

I'd never considered a cruise in my life..
..but being a massive Lips fan went on the Xingolati cruise from Long Beach to LA a few years ago with the Flaming Lips and a load of American Jam Bands and it was one of the greatest times I've ever had. Unfortunately, someone OD'd on board so the experience will probably never be repeated, but if the Weezer one is anything like Xingolati, I'd advise people to start saving now.
