Seriously. This looks AMAZING: http://www.theweezercruise.com/
Wouldn't ever in a million years spend money to do that though.
And still had a girlfriend. I'd be there.
As it stands... Good luck to the rest of you.
that would make a good news feature.
(but yeah, this does look cool. i wonder what sort of people would turn up? weezer fans with $1000 to drop like that? who are those people???).
but compared to some cruises... maybe not.
Unbelievably tempted to make this my holiday next year.
that this isn't just a festival, it's also a cruise. for most people onboard this will be their holiday.
I see what yr meaning now.
Maybe you don't like it or whatever, but they have offered something really fantastic here that fans will love. This is the kind of thing that some people will remember for the rest of their lives. It is definitely worth that price to some people.
But fair enough if it isn't for you.
I'm still not sure if yr being entirely serious.
you have a point, but i am just going with the opinion that this is a fun idea. I could look into the ethics of the whole thing but really no one is being exploited, it is all just a bit of fun and i'm sure that is the only reason Weezer want to do this.
You could apply the logic of pricing people out of everything. Some people wouldn't be able to afford that forest thing either, but that is just how society is atm.
Half of that festival was people saying that the death of festivals is due to them all being the same, with the same bands nothing unique. This is an example of people trying to create something unique. Yeah, it's expensive, but the target audience is more specific than it'd just be for a Weezer gig in London. It's going to be for massive Weezer and Dinosaur Jr fans, which means it isn't going to be 16 year olds desperate to get hammered and start a riot at their first Leeds festival, it's going to be older people with a bit more money to splash on what's guaranteed to be an amazing few days.
You know they're also playing shows where tickets are $35? I think if anyone was expecting to pay less than that to see Weezer then they're a bit mental.
Creating something that's special in order to sell more tickets isn't bullshit. Look at the Secret Garden Party, that's sold out with a pretty dreadful lineup, but they've somehow garnered the reputation that it's all artsy and special and unlike any other festival, and therefore people want to go. What's bullshit is when people get worked up about the ideas of bands that they don't even care about.
It's a lot of money and it obviously totally prices out poorer fans, but I doubt they stand to make a mint out of it. And we're talking about a middle aged band with a middle aged main support (Dinosaur Jr + spin off bands); $599 + flights is a chunk of money, but it's unlikely to be prohibitive to somebody of their age earning pretty average money.
plus, it's wanker, I mean weezer.
ATP, please follow suit.
You know, those ones that cost in the region of £200 for 3 days and you still have to buy a tent to take with you, rather than stay in the chalet that's included in the price?
Or are you just spouting shite?
it's a cool idea and will be an experience for all those involved, it's not exactly a FUCK U to the fans.
this is not cool at all
gonna be full of tragic 30-somethings who've all got proper jobs but still think they're cool and are going off for a bit of an alt. weekend jolly
In fact I think this is the least cool thing any band has ever done.
how could anyone over 30 have the right to listen to and enjoy music..... the bastards, anyone who actually listened to blue and pinkerton when they came out should have hung themselves with their bespoke office tie long ago
of course i would say that if weezer, who are now in their 40s, are only allowed to play to teenagers, (not sure who the cool and uncool are there) they should have given up 10 years ago, but thats pretty much the most overdiscussed topic on dis so should be probably be left alone
Stop being a twat. Floating festival seems like a good idea. Even if it is boring middle aged people, what do you care? Don't they have the right to enjoy it? You just done across as sounding bitter and jealous.
Moving swiftly on, they have a slide. I so want to go, and I don't even like weezer!
You just come across as one of these people that THINKS they are so smart. Everybody hates these people and they're always really easy to spot cos they always want to DISCUSS THINGS at more than FACE VALUE LEVEL.
join us over at the Easy Going Aloof Brigade where nobody has to think about ANYTHING or commit to having any views which arn't completely neutral. People that get all wound up about THINGS and ISSUES are so boring. If people want to kill seals or DO A HOLOCAUST then who are you to say they can't enjoy it? Jeez.
I hear they'd be really happy to have you or you know if you don't want to thats cool i mean everyone's entitled to their opinion
it was a joke
an obvious joke
Don't back down now man!
P.s. I really want to go to this.
Marshall Tucker Band
Journey is obviously the best one.
I'm terrified of the ocean but I'd probably jump ship.
later this year.
That's the one i won't to go on.
I was so happy.
He was like lightning coming out of a dish.
'E COME OUT
I think this is a great idea. I don't go to work every single fucking day of my life to spend money on a god damn weezer show at a library. If i want to go on the weezer cruise and enjoy something different and memorable then who are you to tell me im morally bankrupt?
It's the same premise as ATP. Offering generally white middle class 30 somethings with an outlet to see left of mainstream bands in a comfortable environment and willing to pay for that privilege.
If you love music (in this case 90's indie), have the expenditure and see this as a special event, then forking out $$$ for it is a no brainer.
Don't be such a downer. Go write an email to Ian McKaye. I'm sure he gives a shit.
YOU ONLY LISTEN TO LIMP BIZKIT TO OBJECTIFY THE POOR! THINK OF THE ETHICS OF KNOCKING SOMEONE THE FUCK OUT! POOR PEOPLE ARE BEING KNOCKED THE FUCK OUT EVERY DAY BECAUSE THEIR MOUTHS ARE WRITING CHEQUES THEIR ASS CAN'T CASH. BECAUSE OF THE RECESSION
so you don't forget again and when it comes to cash, I'll be gettin' smoked, livin' out my money cuz I'm broke cuz of the recession AND WEEZER TAKING MY MONEY FUR A CRUISE. Also, don't even come around here, askin' where ma cash is, cuz MMMMEEEEEEE IIII'MMM BBBBBBBRRRROOOOKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
shit that's in a diaper
I suspect grouchland was still gestating in a lab at that point though.
I mean I know its only important to a certain extent that a band be cool but I think most of you guys think that bands shouldn't be cool because its more "REAL", which is why you all like weezer. And this cruise.
And none of you are cool.
I didn't care about being cool until I read your comment. Now I can't go back to unawareness.
The first two records are masterpieces.
i'm so cool i once broke a pie chart demonstrating how cool i am
A cruise was only a matter of time.
grouchland's righteous anger - which i'm sort of on board with (ha ha! on board! suck it!) and the bit about the holocaust. oh, and yeah, i'd quite like to see sebadoh on a boat but i ain't wealthy so it ain't gonna happen. ne'ermind.
Sean make this a feature.
isn't that far off what you'd pay for a normal 4 day cruise anyway. Add in some bands and stuff and the price seems pretty fair for the type of demographic who'd go on it (hardcore fans and older fans with some cash to spare).
If you were in a band like Weezer, how could you NOT want to run and host an event like this?
..but being a massive Lips fan went on the Xingolati cruise from Long Beach to LA a few years ago with the Flaming Lips and a load of American Jam Bands and it was one of the greatest times I've ever had. An absolute blast. Cost a lot of money which I'm still paying back, but will stick with me. Here's someone's vid of some of the stuff on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwUFmlCZ-XI
Unfortunately, someone OD'd on board so the experience will probably never be repeated, but if the Weezer one is anything like Xingolati, I'd advise people to start saving now.
The Cruise was from Long Beach to Enseneda, Mexico. Long Beach to LA would've been a very short cruise indeed ;-).
It's a big blue watery road!
Rivers isn't excited about it either: http://vimeo.com/26328112
this sounds like the most awesome holiday ever.
i honestly feel you need another person to tell you how silly you're being. SO SO SO SILLY.
ps. telling you your opinion is wrong is not aloof. "Cheers." :)))))))))
day 2 of the weezer cruise. tensions are high. if you listen out on the deck the bourgeoisie are singing along to el scorchio as the sunsets. i fear a proletariat such as me may not voyage to my home shores in good health. i love you mum. i love you dad.
I don't understand what groucho means when he talks about the 'we're so poor aesthetic'. I don't get that from KK or the Dirtbombs at all. Mind you having read a book about the 90s-00s garage rock type bands a lot of them made no money whatsoever.
I fully expect Weezer to play a covers set dressed as the violinists from the Titanic. That is all.
Meet be in the sea of balls, that's how I've started referring to my bed
... let the vomit flow
I love the idea though of these bands being locked up on a boat for four days with some of their uber-fans, constantly asking them questions and harrassing them. "Hey, Rivers, can you autograph my scrotum" and "Rivers, can't you admit that early Weezer was best?" are 2 I'd love to be able to watch the replies to.
Or, it could be with those prices that Cuomo, Mascis and Barlow will be playing their performances and afterwards airlifted off in a helicopter to stay in a 5 star palace further down the coast...
Look at that. Fuuuck. Why didn't i go.
This looks incredible.
looks real good actually
does grouchy even post here anymore?
and topped himself
but there's another cruise coming up so let's start all over again... http://www.theweezercruise.com/
weezer and ash, together, on a cruise ship, in the sunshine? i know i shouldn't care, now, about this, in 2013, but that excites me far more than any other festival lineup going.
