How indie of him.
It doesn't seem fair that he makes so much money from saying his name over other people's music
maybe they should have a special chart for those special artists who need help writing a song
Dappy is currently working on his debut solo album, while Fazer has been writing material for other artists including Katy Perry.
this shit's been happening for longer than his grand father's balls dropped. who gives a shit about the charts these days anyway?
do you only get half a hit?
Not necessarily about not allowing them to chart, but the whole 'authorship' thing. I think it does undermine an artist when they've just been dumped with a song. It's basically puppetry. And I extend that to Elvis, Frank Sinatra, etc. Great stars, yep, but the fact that they were singing other people's songs denigrates them as as 'artists'.
Someone mentioned that The Hives songs were written by their manager, which I thought was a bit sad.
It would cut out a fuck load of dross from the charts.
randy fitzsimmons? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Fitzsimmons
Or actors not able to be considered artists unless they're performing scripts they wrote themselves?
of authorship. Are you saying people who perform Mozart should get the same level of credit as him?
Actors is an interesting one, but I think it still differs. I'd say you can exert a lot more of yourself in acting than singing/performing. But i guess this is more subjective.
Basically, people getting together to write and perform their own music is, in my view, much better than getting someone to front other people's work. It's a breakdown in creation to execution.
Great songwriters but not captivating performers? Tough luck? The dynamic of songwriter and performer exists for a reason.
Performers can definitely give a song as much personality as an actor can a role, the greatest performers are essentially actors anyway.
There doesn't need to be that kind of snobbery about entertainers vs writers, especially not from the guy who wrote 'Papa Can You Hear Me?'
someone on here was going on about how amazing I Hung my Head by Johnny Cash was
and I was like "... that's actually a Sting song"
and they were like "... wtf"
Sting can go fuck himself, but Cash's performance of that song is beyond incredible and it matters not one iota that he didn't write it
but i can't bare to even think of sting's face, let alone hear his voice
Doesn't write any of her singles, but she is definitely their 'artist'
I always have more admiration for an artist who both writes and performs as they have two distinct talents, but to totally dismiss performers of other people's songs is ludicrous.
In Dappyland, a brilliant songwriter who has the voice of a thousand tortured cats would never be able to get his/her music out there.
That hat isn't used to keep his brain warm, is it?
yeah yeah tight make dat bass louder realtalk
